A $1.2 million donation has been made to Protect My Vote - an organization opposing Proposal 18-2, which would create a new redistricting system for legislative and congressional lines in Michigan. Read More

Republican Bill Schuette's gubernatorial campaign has canceled planned TV ads across Michigan in the final week of the race, except in the Detroit market. Read More

NAB, NABEF Launch Toolkit for 'Awareness in Reporting'
The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the NAB Education Foundation (NABEF) unveiled an online toolkit to help journalists cover sensitive stories involving religion as part of the "Awareness in Reporting" initiative. Read More

FCC Eliminates Broadcasters' Obligations to File Paper Copies of Contracts
For nearly 80 years, the FCC's rules required broadcasters to file paper copies of various types of documents relating to the control and operation of their stations. Read More

FCC Votes to Free Up Spectrum for Unlicensed Use
According to the report in Broadcasting & Cable, the FCC has voted unanimously in support of the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to open up 1,200 Mhz of spectrum for unlicensed use, five times the current unlicensed spectrum, with rules to protect against interference with incumbent users. Read More

Midwest Communications Introduces Kalamazoo to Jack
RadioInsight.com reports that Midwest Communications  flipped alternative rock station WZOX-FM (Portage-Kalamazoo) to the Adult Hits format "Jack FM...playing what we want" this morning, November 2.  Read More

Saga Communications Expands in Florida
Michigan-based Saga Communications, Inc. announced early this week that it has entered into an agreement to purchase the assets of WOGK(FM), WNDT(FM), WNDD(FM) and WNDN(FM) from Ocala Broadcasting Corporation, LLC.  Read More

WWSJ-AM Transferred to Helen Harp
Following the death of longtime gospel broadcaster Larry Harp, who passed away in August of 2017, an application was filed October 30 with the FCC to transfer the license of WWSJ-AM (St. Johns) to Kingdom Builders of Larlen LLC.  Read More

WCSX Launches All-Christmas on HD2
Beasley Media Group, LLC; a subsidiary of Beasley Broadcast Group, Inc. announced that Detroit's Oldies 94.7 HD2 has transformed into 24/7 Christmas music, beginning at midnight on Thursday, November 1, 2018.  Read More

Jackson Radio Works Gathers Teen Volunteers for Make a Difference Day
On Saturday, October 27, Jackson Radio Work's WKHM-FM K-105.3 (Jackson) enlisted the help of the Youth Advisory Committee, a youth-focused and youth-administered group with the Jackson Community Foundation, to helpclean up the leaves that have fallen on the yards of some Jackson residents in honor of National Make a Difference Day.

As Facebook has tweaked its algorithm in response to outside pressure, radio stations - as well as businesses generally - have reported a significant decline in engagement. One hope for stations looking to stem the tide has been to try and use Facebook's Stories feature, which allows users to publish videos or photo collections that only last for 24 hours.  Read More
