Test Next Thursday
(9/20); Don't Forget the Reporting
A reminder to broadcasters that this coming Thursday, September 20 at 2:20 p.m. Eastern, FEMA and the FCC will be conducting another nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System.  This year's test will also include testing of WEA, the Wireless Emergency Alert System.   Read More

Reminder: Lowest Unit Rate Period Now in Effect

Court Decision: No Straight Ticket Voting in November
According to a report in Gongwer, the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in a 2-1 decision granted a motion by the state to stay a ruling that Michigan's ban on the straight ticket voting is unconstitutional.  Read More 

Board of Canvassers Sets Ballot Proposals
The Board of state Canvassers unanimously certified Promote the Vote ballot proposal which means that the voters will decide whether to allow same-day voter registration and whether any eligible voter should be able to vote absentee.  Read More 

Federal/Regulatory Updates

FCC Annual Regulatory Fees Due by September 25
According to the Broadcast Law Blog, the FCC released an order setting the amounts for the Annual Regulatory fees that are due by September 25.  The agency also released a Fact Sheet detailing the fees for broadcast and other licensees regulated by the Media Bureau and how those fees should be paid.  Read More

Marcos Chappell named
Weekend Executive Producer at WDIV
WDIV-TV Local 4 (Detroit), a Graham Media Group station, has announced that Marcos Chappell has been named Weekend Executive Producer. Chappell joined the station in early September.   Read More

Brad Tunney Promoted; Blake Froling Joins WLUN 
WLUN-FM ESPN 100.9 (Pinconning-Midland) has announced the promotion of Brad Tunney to the station's lead play-by-play broadcaster, and the hiring of Blake Froling as a new play-by-play broadcaster and content coordinator .   Read More

WZZM Names Paul Mack as Director of Sales 
WZZM-TV (Grand Rapids), the TEGNA owned ABC affiliate in West Michigan, has promoted Paul Mack to Director of Sales. He will oversee the sales team and be responsible for achieving the station's broadcast and digital advertising revenue goals.   Read More

Michigan Radio Expands Service to Port Huron
In a unique partnership with the St. Clair County Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA), which completed its acquisition of WRSX in July 2018, Michigan Radio is the exclusive provider of public radio programming for the Port Huron station, with a 24/7/365 simulcast originating from WUOM studios in Ann Arbor.   Read More

Midwest Communications Flips WQTX to '90s Hits
On September 5, Midwest Communications flipped longtime sports outlet WQTX-FM (St. Johns/Lansing) to a new format featuring hits of the late '80s, '90s and early 2000s as "92.1 Fuel-FM....Lansing's High-Octane Fun."  Read More
