Happy Valentine's
If there's one thing we could all use a little bit more of, it's time. (And money and chocolate - but that's another story...)

Your life is busy  - especially during the holiday season - and your days are filled with work, errands, cleaning, families, and relationships. And if you're in a time of transition - having a kid, starting a new job, getting married, etc. - your time is even more pinched.
All of these things naturally affect your relationship with your dog(s) and how much time you're able to spend with them. While some of us are lucky enough to spend all day at home with our pup, others get little precious special time with our furry friends.

It should come as no surprise that no matter what your schedule is like,
quality one-on-one time with your dog is super important, both for your pup and for you! You made the investment and important decision to get a dog, and it's equally important to love them up as often as possible.

MABTR has an
ETSY Store!

Do you make Boston Terrier-related products of any kind? From functional items like belly bands and dog clothes to artistic works like paintings, glass etchings, and crocheted tissue box coverings, we're interested in selling your products at the official AdoptABoston Etsy boutique!

Please contact our Etsy store manager,   Kyla, today if you can help us build a unique assortment of products that will help us raise money and awareness for our cause.  We're committed to managing sales and customer service.

What we need from you is the ability to ship your product to the buyer within three days of receiving your order. We'll pay you 65% of the sales price plus the amount we receive from the customer for shipping. The balance will cover our Etsy fees and support MABTR's rescue activities.

Contact: Kyla,

Share your travel plans with MABTR and
in return help out a Boston
As many of you know MABTR covers 13 states. 75% of our adoptions occur between foster homes and adopters in different states, requiring MABTR to set up a transport by car.  We do not fly our dogs.

Many of us travel for business or pleasure by car so we ask that you share with us your travel plan should you have room for a Boston to hitch a ride.

Just some examples, and not limited to, of routes completed.  Note that some routes are short distances where others a whole day:
  • Colorado Springs, CO to Cheyenne, WY
    • Omaha, NE to St Louis, MO
      • Omaha, NE to Boise, ID
        • Des Moines, IA to St Paul, MN
          • Kansas City, MO to Springfield, MO
            • ... the list goes on
Share with us your travel plans - even those scheduled in the future.
It is simple.  Just email your starting and ending location, date(s) of travel, and your name and phone number.  We will file the travel schedule shared and if the need approaches we will contact you with details.

Most of our dogs ride well in cars without a crate, but if you require a crate we will supply one.
The doggies thank you for allowing them to hitch a ride!!!!!  Without drivers we would struggle moving our dogs closer to their forever homes.
Remember that you can write off at tax time your gas or mileage when transporting our Bostons.
MABTR Alumni - Lily
" I wanted to give you guys an update on my furever baby Lily, formerly Millie.  I adopted her last January and she was the most terrified dog I'd ever met. Anytime I took a step in her direction she'd run and hide.  For months she was scared to be near me, but she did get along with her brother, my 5-year-old Boston named Batman.  They took to each other quickly, which was sweet and made me happy.
Lily also struggled with potty training.  For months, she would have an accident pretty much every hour when she was out of her kennel.  It was definitely a frustrating time.
In past months, Lily has made tremendous strides.  We moved into a different apartment, and she has flourished!  She's no longer afraid of me, and even likes to get up on the couch and cuddle!  And her potty training has finally started to stick - we're down to a single accident every couple of days.
She is such a spunky, fun girl now! I am so thankful to you guys for rescuing her and giving me the opportunity to adopt her.  She brings so much joy to our home!
Here's my girl with her big brother Batman. "   -- Jillian B.
Adoptable Dog of the Month

Hi, my name is  Doug!   I am 3.5 years old and weigh 23 pounds. I need a new home because I didn't get along with the kitty at the house. I am being fostered in Mapleton, MN.

I am very active boy.  I love to cuddle and love to give kisses.  I like to lay on the couch next to my foster mom or in the chair with my foster dad.

I need a home with time, patience, NO children, NO other pets.  I do live with another Boston in my foster home and although I do get along with her, I tend to be an alpha.  I would be just happier as the only animal in the house.

I love to chew on my toys (no plush toys please).  I like to play fetch with the ball and can jump really high.  I listen well and I know all my commands.  I do sleep well in my crate at night, but I would also do good sleeping in your bed with you, since I'm snuggly.
Ask Jennifer

Q: What can I do to help my dog not wolf down her dog food?
A:   For those dogs that eat fast or scoop up a hand full of food, I recommend laying the dry kibble on a flat surface (plate or floor) which in return forces the dog to pick up each individual piece of kibble.
Another thing to ask is if the dog is filling up on his kibble. You may need to add additional meals (taking what you feed now and expanding it across more feedings) or add a snack such as fruits and vegetables between meals. I know as humans we eat more than twice a day.  How often are you feeding your dog?

Remember to take into consideration your dog's activity level as well. The active dogs are going to burn off calories quickly, thus result in them needing more fuel to keep their stomachs content.

 15 Bostons rescued

in January!

3,123 Bostons rescued since November 2005!

We ask that you help us educate the public about their options when looking for a new pet. We appreciate the fact that you are not purchasing your pet from a pet store that sells lives animals, since 98% of all puppies in a pet store come from terrible situations such as puppy mills. For more information on puppy mills visit our site and read all you need to know about puppy mills.

AGE is just a number
I wish applicants would make personality and behavior priority when adopting a dog but the truth is that a majority are not even interested in learning about a dog if it is out of their age range.

Remember that just because a dog is young does not guarantee he/she will live to be 14. MABTR cannot promise anyone how long a dog will live. We unfortunately have experienced the loss of a life at a very young age unexpectedly.

MABTR is not prejudiced when it comes to rescuing. A life is precious no matter
*gender   *age
*disability  *health

has NO
age limit!
