September 2016
MABTR has reached a milestone of saving 3000 dogs from November 2005 to August 31, 2016

Thank you to all those that played a part over the years!   No matter how big or small your contribution and service was, remember you made a difference in a rescued dog's life!

Click here to enjoy our video of just
some of the 3000 faces we have saved
since Nov. 2005 to present

MABTR supports shelter adoptions - however
we want to share a few differences between us.

A rescue organization....
  • will have you fill out an adoption application
  • conduct a phone or in-person interview
  • ask to visit your home to evaluate it for the safety of the pet and their well-being, as anyone can tell you what you want to hear
The price & process may sound like a lot, but in return you typically get a lot...
  • a pet whose behavior and medical history is well-known
  • after-adoption support with training
  • a solid return policy should the pet surprise everyone and not be a match for your home
  • a pet that is fully vetted including shots, heartworm testing, microchipping, and altering at minimum
Remember however that each rescue organization is different - make sure to ask about their policies and process before adopting.

MABTR Alumni Stories Needed

MABTR adoptors - we need to hear from you!  As you are aware, we present an alumni story in The Boston Times every month.  We are out of stories and need your help.

If you have a story you would like to share that includes your experience with your new dog from the two week trial period until now, your experience with MABTR, and pictures, we would love to hear from you!

You can send the story and picture(s) to Jennifer at
Thanks in advance!

Adoptable Dog of the Month

My name is Jak.  I am a 10-year-old Boston mix and weigh 19 pounds.  I need a new home because my owner is terminally ill and can no longer care for me. I am being fostered in Kansas City, MO.

When I entered into rescue, I was a bit shy at first, but was able to settle in with my foster family rather quickly.  I have been showing them how much love I have to give.  It's hard to believe I'm 10 - I have a lot of energy and love to play.  I must be pretty funny too, as my foster mom is always laughing at me!  I'm also just as content to snuggle up next to you for quiet time. I do have some manners too, as I will ask to jump up on the couch or bed.

I'm a smart, sweet-hearted boy that would love to find a new family to love and entertain..

Ask Jennifer

My dog licks his paws excessively. Should I be concerned?

A:   First thing I suggest is giving him a bath in case he walked into something that is causing his feet to itch or be irritated.  If the licking continues, it could be one or more of the following items.

Do not just assume behavior.  Always weed out medical concerns.
  1. has a bad tooth - make sure to check mouth and smell for bad breath
  2. yeast infection between the toes.  Check between the toes for what I describe as slime.  The medication you use for ear infections can also be used to clear up yeast between toes.
  3. has allergies - may need to look at the diet; however if it's due to environmental allergies instead, make sure his feet are washed down every night
  4. side affect to medication - consult with your vet in lowering the dose and gradually working up to the full dose
  5. comforting motion - the dog may just do it because it's soothing to them
Alumni Feature - Winnie
" In November 2013 at the age of 12, Winnie's owner passed away, leaving her homeless.  My family took her in as a foster.  It did not take long before realizing Winnie was already a permanent part of the family.   So we adopted Winnie.
Yes, w e are  " Foster Failures ", b ut could not be happier that we adopted this ole gal.   She keeps our other dogs in line and lets us know when it's time to eat , o r snack  time.   She has been a perfect fit in our house since the day she walked in.

She will be 15 in November and still rules the house  with her young personality .   We  can't thank MABTR enough for all they do  a nd for bringing this beautiful girl to us . "  -- Lynda B.
Allow a Boston to Hitch a Ride!

Many of us travel for business or pleasure by car.  We are looking for you to help us transport a dog from one state to the next to get him/her into foster care or towards a forever home.

Share with us your travel plans even those scheduled in the future. Email your starting and ending location, date of travel, and your name and phone number.  We'll file the travel schedule and if the need approaches, we will contact you with details.

The doggies thank you for allowing them to hitch a ride!!!!!

Remember that you can write off at tax time your gas or mileage when transporting our Bostons.

No anesthesia Dental Cleaning
Boulder, CO
Well Animal Institute offers dental cleanings that are anesthesia-free.

So many dogs are in need of dentals; however, health concerns may deter them from getting what is needed.

Here is your solution for only $185!

$30 goes towards a rescue.

in August!

162 Bostons rescued so far in 2016!

3,000 Bostons rescued since November 2005!

We ask that you help us educate the public about their options when looking for a new pet. We appreciate the fact that you are not purchasing your pet from a pet store that sells lives animals, since 98% of all puppies in a pet store come from terrible situations such as puppy mills. For more information on puppy mills visit our site and read all you need to know about puppy mills.

AGE is just a number
I wish applicants would make personality and behavior priority when adopting a dog but the truth is that a majority are not even interested in learning about a dog if it is out of their age range.

Remember that just because a dog is young does not guarantee he/she will live to be 14. MABTR cannot promise anyone how long a dog will live. We unfortunately have experienced the loss of a life at a very young age unexpectedly.

MABTR is not prejudiced when it comes to rescuing. A life is precious no matter
has NO
age limit!
