MABVI Joins Age-Friendly Worcester
MABVI is honored to join Age-Friendly Worcester as our newest community partner. The Age-Friendly mission focuses on older adults and issues such as housing, health & wellness, technology access, and social participation. MABVI collaborates with Age-Friendly communities to bring awareness about age-onset vision loss and its impact on community inclusion and information accessibility. Seeded by Tufts Health Plan Foundation (now Point32 Health) and the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Fund, MABVI’s initiative is a multi-year effort to promote accessibility within Age-Friendly systems and communities. Through this project, we aim to share our expertise with and learn from the larger age-friendly community by working collaboratively to meet the needs identified by all seniors and increase access to healthy aging resources. Find out more about MABVI's Age-Friendly initiative from our website.

Volunteer Profile: Laura Liscum
MABVI salutes Laura Liscum, our longest-serving volunteer. Laura has worked with three consumers over the years. She approaches volunteerism as a partnership, where the volunteer is there to support each consumer’s agency over their lives and choices. Laura’s longest and most successful volunteer placement, with a community member named Diane, has lasted more than 20 years. Diane and Laura have done many things during that time – reading mail, doing computer work, grocery shopping, and taking a yoga class together at the YMCA. Laura admires Diane. “She’s a very resourceful person. She hasn’t let her vision loss stand in the way of her life.” Thank you, Laura, and all our volunteers who contribute so much!

Make an Impact on Someone's Life Volunteer for MABVI
Make an impact on someone's life — and your own! Sign up to volunteer today! This is a unique opportunity to volunteer with blind or visually impaired people, usually once a week for 1-2 hours or once every other week for 1-2 hours. We need volunteers across Massachusetts, but we have a particular need in several cities and towns with consumers on a waiting list to be matched with a volunteer.
- Dedham, Mattapoisett, and Watertown: Volunteers for mail reading and errands
- Quincy: Volunteers with cars for grocery shopping
- Cambridge and Revere: Volunteers with cars for errands
- Worcester: Volunteers with cars for medical rides and errands
