Board of Director Updates board

The MACTE Board welcomes Karen Simon as the new Board Member representing the American Montessori Society!

Letter from the Chair boardupdate
Letter from the Chair of the MACTE Board of Directors

Dear Rebecca and MACTE Board Members,

I hope this finds everyone well, knowing summer is often the busiest season in Montessori teacher education. It was a pleasure to be in Charlottesville last week and to see how the new office has become an attractive, purposeful space in such a short time. As we worked over a few letters during my visit, it was never far from my mind how our organization has evolved in the past few years with Rebecca's leadership and ability to attract such capable support as Kate, Cassie, and Emma. On the drive from Virginia to New Hampshire, my thoughts extended to the satisfaction of such hard-working and congenial company as the MACTE Board. MACTE is financially solvent, structurally sound, and forward-looking. I believe we are some distance from the beginning of my term in 2011.

On that positive note, I write to advise that I will step down as Board Chair at its earliest convenience and no later than September 1, 2014. I do this with confidence in the strength of MACTE and awareness of my need to refocus energy into personal and professional matters. As I believe you will realize, my timing is carefully chosen in the interest of a smooth and undramatic transition. I am not, at this time, resigning from the Board and expect to make a considered decision on that before the end of my term in November. I'll close by expressing my gratitude for the times we've shared to this point.

Sincerely,

Gary

Shared Responses from our Board Members

Yes, MACTE came a long way :) by the hard work of Rebecca, her team, you and the Board. We are all proud of these accomplishments that should be known by all of the constituents. You have shown great leadership and guidance. You examined the issues thoroughly, gave equal chance to all of us to express our views to support MACTE. Your sense of humor made it easy for us to relax during discussions. It is good to know that you will still be on Board.

Warm regards and

A great Summer to all.

Gulsevin.

Gary,

I am so very happy that this decision included staying on the board.  Your friendship has been such added bonus to serving on this board these last few years.

Dear Gary,

I would like to echo all of the previous sentiments.  From a selfish point of view, I wish you would remain our chairperson.  However, please know that you are supported in your decision.  So happy you will stay with us.

Blessings!

Teresa

Dear Gary -- I am glad to hear that we shall have the pleasure of your company for a while longer and that you are confident, and I think correctly so, that MACTE has grown substantially as an organization under your leadership as board chair.  Rarely have I seen one person make such a positive difference to an organization as you have.  So often it goes the other way around, but you and Rebecca have made MACTE a true player and model organization.  Our meetings are ever so much more productive and enjoyable, largely guided by your gentle wit and clear sense of purpose and balance.

Congratulations

Frank

MACTE Credentialing Process Chart credentialing

As a reminder, MACTE requires all programs to submit Student Lists at the beginning of the course cycle and Graduate Lists once the course cycle is completed.  If your Program is not affiliated with an organization that does their own credentialing, MACTE requires all certificates to be sent to the MACTE office for seal placement before distribution to the Adult Learners.  If you are still having trouble understanding the timeline for MACTE's Credentialing Process, see the flow chart included below for clarification.

One Document! one

AMS affiliated programs will be excited to know that MACTE and AMS have worked diligently over the past two years to consolidate the Self-Study submission into one document.  At this time and moving forward the Self-Study submissions made by AMS TEP's will be one document for both AMS and MACTE.  Many thanks to MACTE's Accreditation Associate, Cassie Bradshaw, AMS Director of Teacher Education Services, Abbie Kelly, and AMS Senior Director of Teacher Education Services, Doris Sommer.  Your collaboration on this project deserves a standing ovation! Thank you for bringing this to fruition.
