BIG NEWS & NOTES
Goodbye to Emma!

After five wonderful years with MACTE, we are saying goodbye to our Operations Manager, Emma!  We have been so fortunate to have someone that in five years has brought so much to our organization. Without her we would not be where we are today.  She began her work here by examining how the organization could be more efficient. She created our database and established our billing portal.  Her organizational skills and creativity have allowed the rest of the staff to concentrate on their areas of expertise. Under the supervision of our financial consultant Mary Rice, Emma's attention to detail and exquisite organizational skills have brought the organization five years of clean audits.  Emma has been an integral part of our staff in that she brought her knowledge of accreditation from her work with the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC), her interpersonal skills, her exceptional analytical and organizational skills, and most of all her beautiful spirit. She will be missed.  oxo

Emma graduated from nursing school this spring and has taken a job with the University of Virginia Hospital's surgical/trauma/burn unit. She will be a gift to them and we wish her all the best as she begins her new career.

If you wish to send Emma a note, she will be with us until August 11th. Emma's email is emma@macte.org
Please give a warm welcome to the newest member of our team - Stacy Seapy!
As we say goodbye to Emma we welcome Stacy Seapy MACTE's new Operations Manager.  Stacy comes to us after receiving her M.S. in Career and Technical Education from Virginia Tech with endorsements in business, information technology, marketing and middle school mathematics. Stacy also has her B.S. in Business Management from Virginia Tech.  Prior to accepting her position at MACTE, Stacy taught accounting, marketing, economics and personal finance for four years at Nelson County High School.  Stacy is innovative and creative as she was the advisor of Future Business Leaders of America and co-founder of the High School's store where she taught students how to run a business, use QuickBooks and prepare invoices.  "Stacy has shown she can integrate technology in the managerial, instructional, assessment and student product pieces of education on a daily basis", wrote her assistant principal, "she consistently used a variety of instructional strategies and resources to meet the needs of all learners."  We are excited that Stacy comes to us as an educator at heart, but also a brilliant mind for numbers and data collection. Stacy began her work with MACTE on July 11, 2016. She lives here in Charlottesville with her husband David, who is a computer programer. Stacy's email is stacy@macte.org.  Please do not hesitate to call or write to welcome her to our staff.

Introducing our New Board Member - Nicole Olsen!
We are very excited to announce a new addition to our MACTE Board of Directors. Nicole Olsen, Administrator of the Montessori Center of Minnesota, in St. Paul has joined our Board of Directors. Nicole received her Masters of Education from Loyola University in Maryland and has an AMI Diploma for primary level, ages 2.5 - 6+. She takes the seat on the Board representing the Association Montessori International (AMI).  Nicole has devoted the last nine years to the Montessori Center of Minnesota's venture in opening a school that serves children of varying ethnic and  socioeconomic  backgrounds and conducting outreach efforts to expand Montessori. She has represented the Center and AMI at every MACTE Symposium. She was instrumental in writing and submitting the Self Study for the Elementary I-II Initial Accreditation for the Montessori Training Center of Minnesota (MTCM).  We look forward to having Nicole serve and represent the AMI community on the MACTE Board of Directors.

The Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) will hold its 5th Annual Symposium for Montessori Teacher Educators on December 2-3, 2016 in Alexandria, VA. Due to several requests, this year's Symposium will not hold sessions on Sunday. This event draws Montessori teacher educators from around the world and is an opportunity for program directors, faculty and national organizations to discuss topics relevant to Montessori teacher education. This year's Symposium will focus on the topic of Student Outcomes, how to collect the data; what are the instruments for collecting the data; and most importantly, what does the data tell us and what do we do with it?

This year's Symposium will begin Friday morning with registration and breakfast. We will kick off the Symposium with updates from MACTE's President, Dr. Rebecca Pelton, followed by our keynote speaker. A full program of events will be coming soon.

The receptions for the Wisdom of the Elders and Dennis Schapiro Award for Innovation in Montessori Teacher Education will be held on Saturday night. This allows participants to enjoy dinner out in Alexandria Old Town and the Boat Parade on the Potomac on Friday evening.
