Annual Report Submission Reminder  

By now your program should have submitted MACTE's 2016 Annual Report (due October 1st). If your program has not submitted the Annual Report, please do so by Friday October 7, 2016,  unless you have received an approved extension from the MACTE office. 

MACTE will be reviewing the Annual Report submissions throughout the next month. We may contact you with additional questions regarding your submission, so please keep the information used to submit your report handy for a few more weeks.

The Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) will hold its 5th Annual Symposium for Montessori Teacher Educators on December 2-3, 2016 in Alexandria, VA. This event draws Montessori teacher educators from around the world and is an opportunity for program directors, faculty and national organizations to discuss topics relevant to Montessori teacher education.  This year's Symposium will focus on the question:

KEYNOTE: Friday, December 2, 2016
Dr. Herman Bounds 
Our keynote speaker on Friday morning will be Dr. Herman 
Bounds, the Director of the Accreditation Group within the Office of Post-Secondary Education. He assumed this position in February 2014 after spending two years as an Education Program Specialist in the Accreditation Group.   Dr. Bounds has been actively involved in many of the Department of Education's recent efforts to strengthen the accrediting agency's recognition process and accreditation overall.  Prior to coming to the US Department or Education, Dr. Bounds was the Deputy Director of the Aviation Career Campus of Metro Technology Centers in Oklahoma City Oklahoma. In addition, Dr. Bounds is a U.S. Army veteran with 20 years of service, and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Maintenance Management from Oklahoma State University; Masters of Science Degree in Aerospace Administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University; and an Education Specialist degree (Ed.S) in Administrator Leadership from Walden University.     He will be addressing what is expected from our programs in response to the USDE changes in regulations regarding student outcomes.

KEYNOTE: Saturday December 3, 2016
Saturday morning's keynote speaker will be Dr.  Tammy Pawloski who has led more than 500 professional learning events for teachers, school leaders, and stakeholders.  She understands the challenges and opportunities of teaching, and has devoted the last ten years to the study of children of poverty - why they struggle and which strategies have the greatest impact.   Dr. Pawloski is a noted expert because of her breadth of knowledge, however what resonates most with teachers and school leaders is her ability to deliver an uncommon combination of research, practice, and compelling stories from the field that empower and challenge them to show up and show out as effective educators.   Don't miss this session!

MACTE Annual Awards

This year both the Wisdom of the Elders Ceremony and the Dennis Schapiro Award for Innovation in Montessori Teacher Education will be held on Friday evening December 2nd, 2016.

Wisdom of the Elders Award

This Award is given by MACTE to distinguished Montessori Educators in recognition of a lifetime of dedicated, heartfelt service to Montessori Education.  This award is conferred upon unique individuals whose life's work has been devoted to preparing teachers, to teaching children, and to strengthening the institutions that serve the Montessori Community of interest both in the U.S. and around the world.

Please note: In order to receive the award, we are requesting that the nominee be present at the Symposium for the Friday evening ceremony.

Dennis Schapiro Award for Innovation in Montessori Teacher Education

On Friday night we will also be announcing the recipients  of the Dennis Schapiro Award for Innovation in Montessori Teacher Education. The Dennis Schapiro Innovation in Montessori Teacher Education Award is awarded annually to a member of the Montessori Teacher Education community that has brought about significant change. We request nominations for Dennis Schapiro Award for
Innovation in Montessori Teacher Education and 
Wisdom of the Elders be submitted no later than October 15, 2016. 

As many of you know, Richard Ungerer, Executive Director of the American Montessori Society will be stepping down from his position after many years of service to the organization. We will be celebrating his contributions to AMS and honoring him in the Friday evening ceremonies.

The MACTE Board of Directors will meet on November 30 - December 1. 

On Thursday December 1st the Leadership from all MACTE Affiliations will be convening with the MACTE Board of Directors to discuss current issues within the Montessori community from 1-5 P.M
The Montessori Leaders Collaborative (MLC) will meet on Sunday, December 4th at the Crowne Plaza.
