In an early session briefing, MACo leaders “hit the high notes” before a House of Delegates Committee – focusing on education, public health, and public safety. MACo President and Harford County Executive Barry Glassman stressed the need to proceed fairly with pending education proposals, and emphasized the importance of “next generation” 9-1-1 legislation. MACo 1 st Vice President and Baltimore City Council Member Sharon Green Middleton discussed the public health challenges facing the City and each Maryland jurisdiction, and lamented that state funding for local health departments has slipped considerably over the last decade.
