To Realize Bold Solutions That Dramatically Improve The Success Of Youth In The Mobile Area

Our Pillars

Every child in Mobile County deserves to receive an excellent education.

For Mobile to truly thrive in the future, its young people must be ready for employment in the thousands of high-wage, high-demand jobs in our region.

To effectively address the challenges facing our youth, our schools need the support and engagement of our entire community.

Excellent Schools: Full-Service Community Schools Partnership

Mobile Area Community Schools Taskforce (MACST) was featured in the second issue of the United States Department of Education’s Full-Service (FSCS) Monthly Digest. This monthly online publication aims to provide important grant-related updates, reminders, highlights, and resources to all grantees and their key partners each month.  The feature was sparked by a visit from US Department of Education FSCS Lead Jane Hodgdon and Donnanique Washington, FSCS Program Officer, on April 2, 2024. Below are some highlights from the feature:

Dr. Jeremiah Newell, the Chief Executive Officer for the Mobile Area Education Foundation (MAEF), and his team have created a community schools program where students are the main focus! One highlight of the services offered is their partnership with the Franklin Primary Health Center. The Franklin Primary Health Center, Inc. provides comprehensive health services through its mobile health clinic, including medical, dental, vision, and behavioral care. Franklin offers top-notch healthcare to everyone, regardless of their financial or insurance situation. The Mobile Area Community Schools Taskforce (MACST) work supports two LEAs in Mobile County: Chickasaw City Schools and MAEF Public Charter Schools. Through holistic, wraparound services, evidence-based practices and strategies, and continuous data-driven improvements, MACST has implemented pipeline services to improve youth and their families' experiences and academic outcomes.

Engaged Community: Every Child Alabama

MAEF is proud to join Every Child Alabama, a coalition of organizations and individuals working to ensure every child across Alabama has access to a world-class education to reach their full potential. We share a unifying belief that when every child receives a transformative education, it strengthens communities, making them better places to live, work, and raise a family.

School funding modernization could better equip districts to serve students living in poverty, with special education or gifted education plans, living in rural areas, and other specialized needs. The Alabama legislature is studying the possibilities for school funding changes, with findings due to the governor and legislative leaders by February 2025.

You can read more about the school funding action taking place in the state legislature here.
