To Realize Bold Solutions That Dramatically Improve The Success Of Youth In The Mobile Area

Our Pillars

Every child in Mobile County deserves to receive an excellent education.

For Mobile to truly thrive in the future, its young people must be ready for employment in the thousands of high-wage, high-demand jobs in our region.

To effectively address the challenges facing our youth, our schools need the support and engagement of our entire community.

Engaged Community: Launching the MOB Partnership for Youth Success

On Tuesday, October 29, more than 40 community leaders from local government, K-12 education, post-secondary education, workforce development, non-profit agencies, and healthcare came together to form the MOB Partnership for Youth Success. Convened by County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood and MAEF, the Partnership will work together to identify critical opportunities for Mobile's youth and design initiatives to improve outcomes for all children.

In this first meeting, the Partnership analyzed data from K-12 education, healthcare, post-high school success, and community supports to better understand the local landscape and identify opportunities for future success. The Partnership also heard from members of MAEF's I-Lead Student Advisory Board to learn more about the lived experiences of local young people.

Partnership members will meet in committees and with the full collaborative throughout 2025 to continue this important work of strategically supporting Mobile's young people to better long-term outcomes.

We are deeply grateful for each individual, organization, and agency's contributions to launch this work. If you'd like to know more about the Partnership and future opportunities to engage, click the link below.

Excellent Schools: MACST ACCEL Community Schools Showcase

ACCEL Academy held its inaugural Community School Showcase on Saturday, October 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at 3 Circle Church. Representatives from 18 community agencies throughout the city of Mobile partnered with the Community School Coordinators to share pertinent information with attendees about the available resources at each agency. Some of these agencies included Helping Families Initiative, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, Family Intervention Team, Genesis Counseling and Consulting Services, Mobile Parks and Recreation Department, Love All Food Pantry, Alabama Cooperative Extension System, AIDS Alabama South, Lifelines Counseling, and many others.

In addition to the on-site community agencies, Sirs Professional Styles and Cuts provided free haircuts, and Mrs. Jenni Tarrant of Jens Bay Balloons provided free face paintings. Franklin Primary Health Services also offered free health screenings, such as height and weight, blood pressure, and glucose. They also had ACCEL parents sign the consent form so that their children could take advantage of the school-based health services offered.

DJ Rodski kept everyone entertained throughout the three-hour event with his musical sounds. ACCEL Academy’s Dance Team, known as the Lady Rockettes and their cheerleaders, gave stellar performances that invigorated the crowd and kept them on their feet. Ms. Angel Molette, the school’s choir director, and high school student, Mr. Tamorris Wilkerson, rendered soul-stirring songs that again captivated the attendees. Under the direction of Mr. David Sank, the drumline of the Mighty Marching Cougars Band of Taylor Park performed at the beginning of the program.

The keynote speaker was Rev. Marvin Charles Lue, Jr. of Stewart Memorial CME Church. He reminded everyone to support family, school, and community partnerships to promote student success. He stressed the importance of students attending school every day and everyone working together for the betterment of students and their future.

The Azalea Trail Maids, who serve as the official ambassadors for the city of Mobile, were at the Community School Showcase to greet the parents, students, and other guests as they arrived. In addition to ACCEL’s Superintendent, school administrators, students, and teachers, over 75 community members were in attendance.

The Community School Showcase was a unique opportunity for attendees to explore the wide range of community resources available for ACCEL students, parents, and families. From the talents of our students in the dance team, cheerleading squad, community band, and school choir to the informative booths, the event was a testament to ACCEL Academy's commitment to holistic development. It was a day filled with fun and valuable information, showcasing the comprehensive support system at ACCEL Academy!
