Excellent Schools: MACST ACCEL Community Schools Showcase
ACCEL Academy held its inaugural Community School Showcase on Saturday, October 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at 3 Circle Church. Representatives from 18 community agencies throughout the city of Mobile partnered with the Community School Coordinators to share pertinent information with attendees about the available resources at each agency. Some of these agencies included Helping Families Initiative, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, Family Intervention Team, Genesis Counseling and Consulting Services, Mobile Parks and Recreation Department, Love All Food Pantry, Alabama Cooperative Extension System, AIDS Alabama South, Lifelines Counseling, and many others.
In addition to the on-site community agencies, Sirs Professional Styles and Cuts provided free haircuts, and Mrs. Jenni Tarrant of Jens Bay Balloons provided free face paintings. Franklin Primary Health Services also offered free health screenings, such as height and weight, blood pressure, and glucose. They also had ACCEL parents sign the consent form so that their children could take advantage of the school-based health services offered.
DJ Rodski kept everyone entertained throughout the three-hour event with his musical sounds. ACCEL Academy’s Dance Team, known as the Lady Rockettes and their cheerleaders, gave stellar performances that invigorated the crowd and kept them on their feet. Ms. Angel Molette, the school’s choir director, and high school student, Mr. Tamorris Wilkerson, rendered soul-stirring songs that again captivated the attendees. Under the direction of Mr. David Sank, the drumline of the Mighty Marching Cougars Band of Taylor Park performed at the beginning of the program.
The keynote speaker was Rev. Marvin Charles Lue, Jr. of Stewart Memorial CME Church. He reminded everyone to support family, school, and community partnerships to promote student success. He stressed the importance of students attending school every day and everyone working together for the betterment of students and their future.
The Azalea Trail Maids, who serve as the official ambassadors for the city of Mobile, were at the Community School Showcase to greet the parents, students, and other guests as they arrived. In addition to ACCEL’s Superintendent, school administrators, students, and teachers, over 75 community members were in attendance.
The Community School Showcase was a unique opportunity for attendees to explore the wide range of community resources available for ACCEL students, parents, and families. From the talents of our students in the dance team, cheerleading squad, community band, and school choir to the informative booths, the event was a testament to ACCEL Academy's commitment to holistic development. It was a day filled with fun and valuable information, showcasing the comprehensive support system at ACCEL Academy!
