This law would change the statute of limitations to begin after the discovery of the harm. Although limitations would still be 3 years, according to discussion by a representative of Medical Mutual this is a significantly greater change since essentially the statute of limitations will be nearly without an end. Therefore, there will likely be a need for a large premium increase. The MMA will oppose this act as will other Maine medical organizations. 

If passed, this bill would drive up the cost of care and could discourage physicians from practicing in Maine which would surely add to the already growing physician shortage in our State.
