Last week, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed
Senate Bill 690
, which appropriates nearly $880 million in federal funding to support various COVID-19 response actions across the state.
The supplemental budget
included $25 million to provide Device Purchasing/Distance Learning funds
to be used to “coordinate and provide an incentive for strategic purchasing of devices for use by students at home and in schools and to address access and connectivity issues for students, families and community members.” The Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators (MAISA) was named as the fiscal agent to administer these funds.
MAISA will be partnering with the
to apply these incentive funds to their SPOT bid process to make the net purchase price of devices lower for districts across Michigan. MAISA will also be counting on the leadership of the Michigan Education Technology Leaders (METL) network and Intermediate Schools Districts (ISDs) across the state to support the connectivity efforts outlined in SB690.
MAISA wants to thank all of these partners in delivering these critical supports to our students and educators.
