The Margarita Inn

You may have seen Connections for the Homeless in the news recently regarding our use of the Margarita Inn. We have sheltered 187 participants during the last year at the Margarita Inn, and we are working to make the arrangement permanent.

On March 17^th, Connections received notice from the City of Evanston’s Planning and Zoning Division that we comply with the zoning definition of a Rooming House. However, the special use permit that we were operating under was deemed expired.

Our next step is to work through the City's zoning department to acquire a new Special Use Permit. As we have throughout this endeavor, we will continue to follow the City's lead.

We are committed to using best practices and evidence-based programs to transition residents from the Margarita Inn into permanent housing solutions and continue to be good neighbors. This is why our next step will be to collaborate with the City of Evanston—including the Mayor and City staff—to support a public process that will address as many community concerns as possible. In partnership, we will create a Good Neighbor Agreement that will document Connections' commitment to the neighborhood—both for the residents of the Margarita Inn and its neighbors.

RESTOCK OUR CLOTHING ROOMS

We took a brief hiatus collecting clothes, but now that spring is in the air, we are ready to stock back up. We are accepting spring and summer clothes, with a strong need for men's shoes and pants.

SPRING CLEAN-UP

Connections for the Homeless has so many wonderful volunteers, and our success would not happen without them.

We were delighted to host a group from Target earlier this month who painted the lower level of Our House to get it ready for young adults to move in.

We also had some dedicated neighbors spruce up our planters and clean the grounds at the Margarita Inn.
