A NOTE FROM BETTY:
A WOMEN'S SHELTER IS COMING!
On Sunday, September 29, I joined the leadership of First United Methodist Church to formally announce to their congregation that a women's shelter will be opening on their lower level later this winter. This is thanks in large part to their congregation's commitment to helping end homelessness, but also to two recent major funding wins.
First, we were awarded a significant grant from the State of Illinois, advocated for on our behalf by Representative Robyn Gabel. Secondly, we were awarded $25,000 from the Baird & Warner Goodwill Network after winning their "$25K of Solid Good" online competition - thank you to all of you who voted for us!

The Council is comprised of high school students from throughout the North Shore, who fundraise, volunteer, and help raise awareness of homelessness in their schools and communities.

HONORING MIKE
Mike began volunteering at Connections more than 10 years ago and has been cooking breakfast 3 to 4 days a week for our shelter residents ever since. Beyond just a hot, made-to-order meal, Mike has built many friendships with our residents over the years.
