STEMworks interns spent the first week getting a feel for the work environment, discussing project goals with their mentors, and learning the different tools and programs they will be working with throughout their internship. Among the many programs used by industry professionals, our interns are utilizing Autodesk 3D, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, Photoshop, and Final Cut Pro.
Here are some of the projects and activities our interns did this past week:

This past Friday, STEMworks interns had their first opportunity to converse and learn from two of the many industry presenters they will meet during their internship, Robb Oshima and Austin Alimbuyuguen.

More than ever, businesses are looking for sales people who offer solutions to their clients problem. STEMworks LIVE presenter, Robb Oshima, an account executive from People Grove, emphasized that sales is like the interview process. You should be able to sell yourself. If you're not able to sell yourself, than how are you going to sell companies a product? You should have the ability to talk confidently, since "you" are the product.
Robb Oshima also talked about finding great mentors. Seek those who have the same interest as you. They contribute a lot to your success. Mentors aren't fully aware of how much their guidance has helped accomplish - you are the best person to bring this to their attention.
|
|
STEMworks interns also talked to Austin Alimbuyuguen, a freelance cinematographer and editor. At 21 years old, Austin has obtained many state and national awards. This shows them that age is never a limitation, and that they can achieve their goals and exceed their expectations through hard work and passion. He also emphasized putting yourself out there and taking the opportunities given to you. You might not get paid, but your efforts, hard work, and "quality" of your work will be recognized.
