This course will take place at the MALSCE Convention on March 4, 2023. The session will last from 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM with two 15-minute breaks and a one hour lunch break. MALSCE is offering a Virtual Professional Land Surveyor Refresher Course this fall to help participants prepare to take the Principles and Practice of Surveying (PS) Exam. The course will take place over three consecutive Saturdays, March 25, April 1, and April 9, 2023. The first two days will feature two sessions with a half hour break in between. The third day will be one session in the morning. Subjects to be covered are as follows:

  • 250 CMR
  • Subdivision Control Law/Zoning
  • Exam Format and Preparation
  • Massachusetts Boundary Law/Statutes

Exhibit During the 2023 MALSCE Convention


The convention exhibit is open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM on Friday, March 3. During a two hour session at the start of the day, groups of attendees will rotate between convention exhibitor demonstrations. There will be ample time to ask questions as you learn about exhibitor products and services. You will then be able to meet and interact with the convention participants throughout the day and during frequent session breaks that are intended to allow time to visit convention exhibits.

Join the MALSCE Public Awareness Committee


During the November 17 MALSCE Board and Chapters dinner meeting, board members approved a description for a reconstructed MALSCE Public Awareness Committee. Created to perform those duties which will enhance MALSCE and the land surveying profession, this committee is chaired by David Prince, PLS, from WSP. The committee is charged with promoting the general recognition and acceptance of the practice of land surveying and survey engineering, and stimulating a greater interest in public perceptions affecting the profession.

NSPS Certified Floodplain Surveyor Training


Due to capacity constraints, we were not able to accommodate everyone interested in attending the recently-held NSPS Certified Floodplain Surveyor (CFS) Northeast Training and Certification Program. MALSCE is trying to determine when to hold this training again in 2023. If you would be interested in attending such a program, please email Michelle Monette at [email protected].

Kurt Fraser, PE (1977-2022)


Members of the MALSCE Board of Government are sad to announce the passing of MALSCE member Kurt Fraser on December 23, 2022. Kurt worked for the Town of Brookline before starting his own firm, Fraser Poly-Engineering, in 2009.

Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology is now offering professional land surveying courses for those currently working in surveying. Other universities with online surveying and geomatics program options include Idaho State University and New Mexico State University.

NSPS Officer Election Results

 

NSPS Executive Director Tim Burch has announced that Davey Edwards and Linda Foster have been elected to serve as the President-Elect and Vice President, respectively, for the 2023/24 term. They will be sworn in as Officers at the Spring Business Meeting in March. Robert Miller, the NSPS incumbent Treasurer, was unopposed and will serve another two-year term. 

NSPS Day on the Hill - Save the Date!

 

Make plans to attend the 2023 NSPS Day on the Hill scheduled for March 29, 2023. NSPS members will travel to Capitol Hill in Washington, DC to meet with members of the US House of Representatives and Senate, and their staffs to discuss matters of interest to professional land surveyors.
