The Virtual 2021 MALSCE Convention a Great Success

Adhering to COVID-19 risk mitigation requirements, MALSCE leaders held the 2021 convention as a virtual event. A Convention Planning Committee, co-chaired by Joseph Vozzella, Eastern Massachusetts Chapter president, and Dan Bremser, MALSCE president, and staffed by other Eastern MA Chapter members and MALSCE leaders, was charged with the task of presenting this virtual event. Thanks to the efforts of this group, after months of planning, the Virtual 2021 MALSCE Convention took place on the mornings of Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, March 17, 18, and 19. Feedback from the more than 100 individuals who participated in the convention indicates that this virtual event was well-received.

Organized under the theme "Disruption to Recovery," the Virtual Convention featured thirteen general and concurrent sessions, a virtual exhibit, an online plan and field notes contests, MALSCE Annual Meeting, a virtual reception & awards ceremony and a virtual murder mystery party.

MALSCE Leaders are hopeful that the 2022 MALSCE Convention will be able to be held in person.

Virtual 2021 MALSCE Convention Reception Features Presentation of Licensed Surveyor Data

On Friday, March 19, during the Virtual 2021 MALSCE Convention Reception and Awards Ceremony, MALSCE Education Trust Chair Thadd Eldredge, PLS, CFM, from East-SouthEast LLC, presented some of the findings of the research he has undertaken to determine the status of registered Professional Land Surveyors in the Commonwealth. By conducting an extensive analysis of licensing data obtained from the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, Thadd determined that the number of registered land surveyors in the Commonwealth has decreased from 836 in November 2019 to 763 in March 2021. This represents a 9% decrease in the number of registered land surveyors over approximately the last 15 months. Thadd examined and described the home locations of the individuals with professional land surveyor licenses for the two sample dates. He also made future projections about the number of surveyors by municipality by utilizing license dates and some assumptions about length of practice and age. You can view the results of Thadd’s impressive analysis at https://www.ese-llc.com/surveyor-stats
