Do You Have a Photo MALSCE Can Use
in a Banner About Land Surveying?
Members of the MALSCE Public Awareness Committee are planning to have a pop-up banner made that they can use when visiting schools, STEM career fairs, and appropriate conferences to talk about careers in land surveying. They are looking for copyright-free photographs of the latest survey technologies being used in various setting and other images that illustrate the diversity of the individuals, equipment, and fields of practice within the profession of surveying.

Join the MALSCE Public Awareness Committee
The recently reconstructed MALSCE Public Awareness Committee is charged with promoting the general recognition and acceptance of the practice of land surveying and survey engineering and stimulating a greater interest in public perceptions affecting the profession. Committee chair David Prince, PLS, from WSP, has been holding regular meetings and member of the committee have made several visits to promote a career in land surveying to secondary school students.

Final Chance to Renew Your MALSCE Membership!
The MALSCE Board of Directors would like to thank all MALSCE members who have paid their fiscal year 2024 dues. Your timely payment helps ensure that MALSCE has the financial support it needs to sustain its operations. Prompt payment of your dues also ensures that you continue to receive the numerous benefits that MALSCE has to offer through June 30, 2024.
If you have not yet paid your FY24 MALSCE dues, please be aware that third and final dues invoices were emailed at the end of October. The deadline for paying your dues is December 15. Non-renewing MALSCE members will be made inactive in early January. If you have not paid your FY24 dues and would like to receive another copy of your MALSCE dues invoice, contact Michelle Monette at 617-305-4113 or mmonette@engineers.org.

MALSCE Government Affairs Update November 2023

Learn how MassDOT's new plan preparation guidelines impact surveyors and how the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors has issued an updated professional guide. The latter, entitled, A Guide to the Practice of Architecture, Engineering, and Land Surveying in Massachusetts, was a collaborative effort between Massachusetts Board of Registration of Architects and the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors This guide includes major updates reflecting changes in regulations since the last guide was published in 1995.

Russell Sackett (1958 - 2023)
MALSCE and Western MA Chapter leaders are saddened to announce the passing of Russell D. Sackett Jr., PLS, on November 9, 2023, at the age of 65. A long-time MALSCE Registered Member and former director of the MALSCE Berkshire Chapter, Russ was also a former eagle scout who received a bachelor's degree in Forest Management from the University of Maine in 1980 and founded Pittsfield-based Sackett Survey Services Inc. in 1993.

MALSCE Education Trust Accepting
2024 Scholarship Applications
The MALSCE Education Trust was founded to enhance the profession of land surveying and civil engineering in Massachusetts by providing scholarship and education grants for the students of land surveying and civil engineering who are Massachusetts residents. Now through November 30, the Trust is accepting applications for its Surveying Certificate Program Scholarship, Memorial Scholarship, and 2024 UMaine Scholarship.

NSPS Scholarship Applications are Now Available
Each year, through the National Society of Professional Surveyors Foundation (NSPSF), over $30,000 in scholarships funded by a variety of individuals, companies and organizations are made available to encourage and support college education in geospatial sciences. These scholarships are a great opportunity for college students in surveying, mapping, geographic information systems and geodetic science programs.
