MANA at ASMS 2024

MANA met at ASMS 2024 this year. The informal gathering, coordinated by Arpana, brought together members from the MANA Board of Directors, MANA ECM Council, MANA CORES IG, and MANA members for networking and to meet in person, bridging the gap from our usual virtual meetings on Zoom.

WomiX Committee members, members of the MANA BOD, MANA ECM Council members, MANA CORES IG Leads, & MANA members gather to represent MANA!

NIH Workshop in Metabolomics Epidemiology

The NIH Workshop in Metabolomics Epidemiology was held on May 15, 2024. Our President, Ewy Mathé, and ECM Vice Chair, Nicole Prince, were among the featured speakers at the event. Watch videocast here!

IG Leads meet with MANA BOD for a biannual meeting in June

IG Leads were invited to the June 2024 MANA BOD meeting to discuss current and future activities. This biannual meeting provides IG Leads with an opportunity to engage directly with the BOD, ensuring that IG needs are addressed and heard. The next IG Leads meeting with the MANA BOD will be held in person at the MANA2024 conference.

Introducing the Stellar™ Mass Spectrometer from Thermo Scientific™, unveiled at ASMS 2024. This groundbreaking instrument sets a new standard in biomarker verification, boasting unprecedented quantitative sensitivity and compound coverage that surpass existing technologies by tenfold and fivefold, respectively. By combining the robust quantitative capabilities of triple quadrupole technology with the hyper-fast full scan MSn acquisition capabilities of the dual-pressure linear ion trap technology, the Stellar mass spectrometer expands its analytical capabilities to encompass a wider range of compounds.

MANA Early Career Members

Early Career Members (ECM) strives to empower the next generation of scientists in the field of metabolomics in North America by supporting opportunities for mentorship, networking, training, and career development opportunities.

Recent Events:

ECM hosted a virtual live Q&A session “Career Transitions in Metabolomics: Academia to Industry” to learn about career transitions into industry research. Our event explored different career tracks in industry metabolomics research, how to decide if the move is right for you, and how to take steps to ensure a smooth transition. We would like to thank our panelists Dr. Ivana Blaženović (Brightseed, Inc.), Dr. Savannah Snyder (Bruker), Dr. Parker Bremer (Altos Labs), and Dr. Elys Rodríguez (Merck) for their time and efforts in making this event a success!

New ECM Initiatives:

MANA ECM is launching a centralized early career reviewer list! Are you interested in gaining review experience, or participating in review mentoring? Click here to sign up today! Our list will be periodically shared with editors of metabolomics-focused journals to encourage recruitment of early career researchers as peer reviewers.

If you’re not already part of the email list, please send us an email with your name, the year of the last degree, and what email address you would like to use. We can be reached at earlycareer@metabolomicsna.org.
