Advocacy Alert: Sales Tax Exemption for 501(c)(3)s
Did you know that some, but not all, of Maine's charitable nonprofits are exempt from sales tax? It makes for a confusing and piecemeal system, and we want to help fix it!
Mary Alice Scott, MANP's Public Affairs Manager, is up at the State House today for a hearing on this bill in the state legislature which would create a blanket sales tax exemption, meaning all 501(c)(3)s would be exempt from paying sales tax on goods and services purchased (if the goods/services are used primarily for the purposes for which the nonprofit organization was organized).
Have questions or stories to share about this issue? Reach out to Mary Alice at mascott@nonprofitmaine.org and keep your eye on this newsletter for updates.

MANP Connects Returns this Friday!
Remote work became a necessity during the COVID-19 pandemic for many organizations that hadn't previously considered this kind of arrangement. Results from our 2022 Survey of Nonprofit Wages & Benefits show that remote and hybrid work arrangements are likely here to stay for more than half the Maine nonprofit workforce. Learn more on our blog.
With this trend in mind, we're curious: how are Maine nonprofits finding creative ways to keep their geographically distributed teams feeling connected? This Friday, February 17th at MANP Connects, we're inviting our network to join us to share ideas and get inspiration from others. (Have something to share? Make a note when you register so we can be sure to call on you!)
