State Continuing Education Clock Hours and Certificate Renewal Update
There are important updates related to teacher certification renewal and State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. These updates include:
MANS is offering up to 25 SCECHs available for Distance Learning Transition
School Committees are able to meet virtually
Waiver of required DPPD and SCECHs for 2020 renewal. 150 hour requirement has been reduced to 120.
Interim Certification Guidance Provided for Michigan Alternative Route to Certification
The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) has issued guidance on changes to the state’s alternative route to certification and provided clarification on requirements for individuals seeking the interim teaching certificate during mandatory school closure.

Michigan Virtual Mental Health and SEL Resources
Michigan Virtual is providing students, teachers and families with FREE access to their Michigan Cares Portal. This online platform houses hundreds of lessons designed to help children develop the skills required for social, emotional, and mental well-being.
Learning Forward Cohort and Standards Assessment Inventory
The Michigan Equitable Service Collaborative (MESC) is excited to partner with Learning Forward to offer Michigan non-public schools the opportunity to participate in both the Standards Assessments Inventory and the Learning Leaders Cohort. These two opportunities will allow leaders to have an in-depth look at the professional learning occurring in their buildings and how they align with the
Learning Forward Professional Learning Standards.

Aquinas College Accelerated Education Masters Program
Aquinas College has launched the Accelerated Master in Education (AME) program that will help address the urgent need for well-trained K12 teachers in the state and nationally. The unique Aquinas program is conducted in cooperation with local school districts, so that individuals who qualify and hold a bachelor’s degree will be able to complete their initial teacher certification course work and clinical requirements in fewer than 18 months.

The Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools (MANS) and Michigan District-LCMS are proud to sponsor ArtPraise: A Faith-Based Student Art Competition taking place October 15-16, 2020 at the
ONE Michigan ONE Mission Conference. Students who are ages Pre-K – Grade 12 currently attending a MANS member school are invited to create an original piece of art in any medium reflecting this year’s theme “One community in Christ.” Conference participants will vote for their favorite art submission Thursday and prizes for the top three winners will be awarded Friday.
