Dr. Church, the Father of Snow Science, developed the Mt. Rose snow sampler to measure the water content of snow over 100 years ago, advancing the study and prediction of water supply. Read his fascinating story here.

Steve Hale involves our students with the actual implement and sampling calculations.

Teacher Quote About her Low-Income Students:

"The majority of our students have never been away from home for more than a day, and numerous ones have never been to Lake Tahoe, or even out of the Reno area. Your program allowed them to realize that they can attend and participate in an overnight school field trip and be successful. They learned how to take care of themselves without their parents being immediately available for help. Our students became more comfortable and confident with themselves and their new-found abilities such as self-respect, more respect for their peers, self-confidence, and being able to support and complete experiments and activities with a variety of people including their naturalists. Their new-found cohesiveness carries back to the classroom! "
