Hi! My name is Kathy Pepin and I am so excited to be working here at MAP! I live in Walpole with my daughter Maggie, who is in nursing school! I worked for the Walpole School System for 10 years. I have 2 yorkies and 3 cats! I absolutely love working at MAP!
I have so enjoyed meeting and getting to know all of the kids here at MAP! They are a joy every day!
Jumpstart and 1/2 day Kindergarten at MAP
Science has been so much fun! We started the month learning some important science words like hypothesis, experiment, and results. We looked closely at our Earth's weather, land, and oceans. We performed experiments to test out rain clouds and earthquakes. During Biology week we studied our healthy habits, taking care of our teeth and experimented with our 5 Senses. We also received a visit from fitness guru Claude Buttsky. Some of the topics that we loved during Physics week were density, magnets, sink/float, heat, force and motion, and sound. We ended Science month with some crazy experiments like milk fireworks, volcanoes, glow in the dark, fizzy colors, invisible ink and crystals. Take a look at our Science packets to see all of our hard work!
Session 1 CLUBS are Wrapping up…
last week 10/30 with an optional week 11/6
MONDAYS
Sharpie Club with Jeanne –Sharpie Club has been GREAT! The children enjoyed listening to the story Purple, Green, and Yellow, written by Robert Munch. See if you can find out what happens in the story to a girl named, Brigid. It has been fun creating stained glass, turning tiles into art, making spiders and webs using sharpies and watercolors, decorating plant pots, and just coloring with those incredibly great permanent markers.

Yoga and Mindfulness Club with Joanne- I In the past few weeks we turned our focus to Mindfulness activities. In Silence by Lemniscates, we read about using our senses and simply taking time to Stop, Look and Listen to our surroundings (wind, waves, birds and falling leaves) and ourselves (hearts pumping and breathing). Fighting the urge to peek, we put on our fuzzy eye masks and tried a “sniff” test. We had some strong reactions to some of our samples. Peppermint: MMMM...Onions: EEEW!!!! Ishi: simple tips from a solid friend by Akiko Yabuki was the next book we all truly enjoyed! Ishi, (which means rock in Japanese), is an expressive little rock who gives simple ideas for overcoming obstacles, both large and small, using positive thoughts and actions! After discussing the wonderful messages in the book, we chose rocks to be our ‘Ishi” and nestled them into cozy pouches that we had laced. That’s all for now from the “Yoga studio”!

TUESDAYS
Halloween Prep Club with Jodi - Halloween club had a spooktacular time getting ready for Halloween! We played games and made crafts that had us all ready for the big day! Thanks to all my friends who made Halloween club so much fun!

Intergalactic Club with Mike Intergalactic Club had a blast learning about space! We watched a space shuttle launch, landed on the moon, took astronaut application exams, listened to Mike teach club from the surface of Mars, and drew Star Wars ships in battle. It was a great club, and we’ve got some intrepid explorers at MAP!

WEDNESDAYS
Fall Sports Club with Scott - Fall sports club has been an amazing way to kick off the school year. We have had some fun playing our favorite sports and even learning a new game or two. Sportsmanship has been a weekly visitor and I cannot before proud to see how everyone is supporting each other across all the different games. Keep up the good spirit and fair play and we will end our club session with some incredible excitement.

Board Games Club with Trish- Board Games Club has been having so much fun! We have been learning new games like Race to the Treasure, Connect 4, Feed the Kitty, Yahtzee, Candy-land, and mancala. Next up is some new card games!!! See you Wednesday!!!

THURSDAYS
Kindness Rocks Club with Megan - The kids have been working very hard sharing their ideas and putting kindness into action. We made kindness rocks for their teachers and spread them around MAP and Memorial School area. We made brownies and cards for our police and fire department. We also learned that kindness is like a ripple effect and how it keeps going. To show that, we have made a kindness chain so the kids can see how one act of kindness can keep going and create a chain reaction.  However big or small every act of kindness matters.

Wavy Wavy Big Blue Club with Terri - “ Wavy Wavy Big Blue” kids signed their pledge to care for the ocean, made some fun slime and most agreed the sea weed wasn’t bad tasting! We adopted a harbor seal and named her “Fluffy Lolly Olivia Bubbles” also known as “Flobbie” please see her picture hanging above the mailboxes!

FRIDAYS
Glow in the Dark Club with Kim- We have had so much fun in Glow in the Dark club. We have done experiments, art work, kitchen science and even face painting! Did you know that tonic water glows in the dark with a black light? If you add it to Jello, some of the colors also glow in the dark. The kids really enjoyed the Oobleck and painting. Thank you for such a fun, cool club!!

Pinkalicious Club with Megan- In Pinkalicious club, your favorite color doesn’t have to be pink to join. It can be any color that you can imagine! When I was a little girl, pink was my favorite color. Can you imagine having everything you eat be Pink? Or everything you wear only be your favorite color?  In this club, we will decorate jewelry boxes (or any type of special box you can think of), have fun playing dress up and have a tea party, make wands, have a pinkalicious cupcake sensory bin, and create a fizzing cupcake experiment. I bet you can guess what color that might be… if you guessed pink your right!

Afternoons at MAP!
The month of October proves to be a favorite time of year for the children. The countdown to Halloween started before the month even began! Fall and Halloween projects have been the highlight this month.
  • Pumpkin painting
  • Cut out Jack-o-lanterns
  • Haunted house shaving cream art
  • Paper plate bats
  • Halloween masks
  • Ghosts
  • Monster wreaths
The “haunted” dramatic play area has been very popular with wizards and witches creating brews and potions for everyone. It’s always fun to see those creative minds at work. And of course, the gym is always busy with kids using up some energy and having a great time!

Earlier in the month we had our half day called Freaky Friday. Jodi made the teachers some delicious Jello but it ended up turning the teachers a little wacky. Fortunately, with Jeanne's help, the kids made a "potion" to reverse the effects of the Jello. Thank goodness!!
Special Thanks to MAP @ The Pfaff!
The awesome 4th-6th graders from MAP at the Pfaff surprised us with a spooky Haunted Forest! They prepared during club time for over a month, and had a blast bringing it all to life! It was the perfect mix of scary and fun!
