The Michigan Association of Planning, and our partners at Housing Next and the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, invite you

to learn about Michigan’s first Zoning Atlas!

In the pilot phase of the project, we mapped every jurisdiction in Kent, Muskegon, and Ottawa Counties, and then we conducted an analysis of which housing types are permitted and where. The Zoning Atlas helps small and new developers more quickly navigate zoning codes across many municipalities; provides data for housing advocates to help influence housing policy; and supports municipal planners and officials in removing barriers that prevent new housing development across a range of types, sizes, and densities.

We will share brand-new findings about the fast-growing Grand Rapids tri-county area, and demonstrate how the Atlas offers new access to zoning information. Our goal is to map the entire state of Michigan so that we can understand, for the very first time, the legal capacity for new housing in our state. This pilot project is proof of an exciting new concept that is already delivering new findings and sparking new conversations.

Join us for this FREE event to hear the story of the Michigan Zoning Atlas, to see it in action, and to imagine how it could help your work and your region.
