MEMBER ALERT: SACO Proposed limits to REALTORS® serving in municipal roles

At a July 14 Saco City Council meeting, the Councilors had a first reading of a report and recommendations from the Saco Citizens Grievance Review Committee. The Saco Citizens Grievance Review Committees’ recommendations limit the participation of licensed real estate professionals on Saco’s planning board and restrict them from serving in leadership roles. The recording of the meeting, the minutes, and the media coverage are provided below. If passed, this limitation would be an update to the town’s charter.

Member ACTION Recommendation:

We strongly encourage you to contact your City Councilors and ask them to NOT move forward with recommendation #1 of the Saco Citizens Grievance Review Committee, as drafted, regarding the Original Grievance Petition (July 12, 2023) and to NOT add paragraphs (4)(d), (4)(e), and (4)(f) as recommended.

The next City Council meeting will be July 28, Monday at 6:30pm. REALTORS, developers and individuals working in the trades and construction can provide valuable insights to the planning board. We encourage attendance and speak up for our industry. You can also email the Saco city council at: council@sacomaine.org

As REALTORS® who are committed to ethical and responsible public service, this proposal would limit qualified and educated field experts (YOU!) from serving important community roles that help to enact real change in our Maine communities. Contact Saco City Councilors here.
