Message from President Marsha Parham-Green
Dear Colleagues:

There is excitement in the air! Why? Because of these regional events that are underway and being planned:  The MAHRA & MARC NAHRO Conference and Exhibition, election of officers and executive board members, and the 2020 Poster Contest. A few brief comments about each:

MAHRA & MARC NAHRO Conference and Exhibition : May 29-31, at the MGM National Harbor, Maryland.  The cut-off date for hotel reservations is May 6.   Details follow this message.

The conference planning team, led by Stacy Spann, Executive Director of the Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC), has developed program content full of must-know industry issues and speakers who will educate, inspire and motivate you! You’ll also have the opportunity to visit with vendors who will showcase a wide-range of innovative products and services, and to whom you can discuss your challenges and procurement needs. For more information or to register, please visit the conference webpage.

In odd-numbered years, the MARC NAHRO leadership changes hands. On April 22, the Nominations and Elections Committee (N&E) announced the slate of nominees to the membership via email. There are two contested seats. Electronic voting began on April 24 and will run until May 24; associates without an email address were sent paper ballots. If you hear of associates who received neither an electronic nor a paper ballot, by May 10 , please have them contact Sylvia Bowen ( ; 202-580-7201). Election results will be certified and announced by the N&E during the conference.  Be sure to cast your vote--MARC NAHRO needs you to help us elect energetic and engaged leaders to MOVE MARC NAHRO FORWARD!

2020 Poster Contest
I was pleased to learn that state chapters will once again hold contests. State posters will be on display and conference attendees will select winners for the National Competition. Read details online at 2020 Poster Contest .

I hope you’ll read this newsletter from beginning to end! It contains information about volunteering to serve on a regional committee; information about the 2019 NAHRO Merit College Scholarship program; and NAHRO Professional Development Offerings.

Sylvia Bowen was recently named the region’s service officer. She is no stranger to MARC NAHRO, and has served the region in the past. Sylvia replaces Kristen Damazio, who retired earlier this month. Join me in welcoming her back!

I hope to see each of you at the conference. I challenge you to register yourself, your colleagues and commissioners. This is the region’s event and we need your support in order to achieve success!
