What is your passion?
Things that excite and inspire me create strong and barely controllable emotion. At the top of this list are yoga and snowboarding. Yoga is an adventure in itself, there are so many layers, opinions, inspirations, personal journeys, and paths of love that it has to offer. One of my favourite quotes by Rumi is, "let the beauty that you love be what you do," and by not only practicing, but also teaching, yoga it makes my heart smile to say I live my passion. I also believe this smiling heart lives on top of a mountain. While I am snowboarding I feel light, alive and free. Similarly to when I'm practicing yoga my mind turns off; I live in this very moment and then the next.
Why yoga?
Yoga has multiple layers. Asana, the practice of yoga postures, is merely one of the 8 limbs, but asana is for many the 'gateway drug'. Once one becomes addicted to the physical awareness and connection to their body and breath, they search for more. I am this person, and I strive to be the guide for many others as they begin this path. This path that will guide one to not only follow the path of love, but find peace with the mind, body and soul. We learn to simply 'be'. I believe teaching asana and offering my energy and connection with others, is the first step for me on my journey to do my part to change the world.
What is nourishment to you?
Nourishment to me comes from listening to my body. When it comes to food, I know what makes my insides feel good, so that is what I choose to eat. When it comes to my personal yoga practice, I choose to connect with my soul and let it welcome in what it needs. While teaching I try my best to connect with my students' energy, provide them with options of nourishment that may serve their entire being. Nourishment to me is being caring for yourself and offering your own being the same amount of love and forgiveness that you offer others.
What are you working on?
"Out beyond our ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I'll meet you there,"-Rumi. If you have been to any of my classes in the last weeks, I'm sure you could guess that I am currently working on aparhigraha. Aparigraha is the concept of non-grasping. More specifically, I am working on overcoming false beliefs about myself and the world that have held me back.
What would surprise people to know about you?
I can not only sing, but dance too.
This talent sparked behind closed doors at a young age. After this talent was exposed to other humans I learned I am tone deaf and will only ever have the dog as a dance partner. Nevertheless my alone time consists of bubble baths and hair brush concerts.
