Great reading at the Piccabeen Bookshop

Our little shop is bursting at the seams with a range of good
books, and there is always new stock to choose from. The
funds generated by this shop
are crucial in supporting our
work financially. Our volunteer staff are very friendly: do drop
in to say hello and buy a book
or two.

Birthday Facelift for Bookshop
  Icon for Bookshop

To mark the tenth anniversary of our Piccabeen Bookshop, our president, Judith Roland, and a keen group of volunteers gave the façade of the shop a bright new coat (green, of course!) and a set of Piccabeen palms in pots. New shelving and a lick of paint have brightened the interior too.

Come along and see for yourself, pick up a bargain at the same time, and come say hello to our friendly, reliable volunteers.

Bookshop an Ambassador for Namibia
Icon for News Items
Tamborine Mountain is celebrating the 2018 Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast by forming a "Commonwealth Community". Our Piccabeen Bookshop is among seventy businesses and community organisations, each of which has become an ambassador for one of the seventy competing countries. We are presenting Namibia to mountain residents and visitors from April 2017 to April 2018, providing information about the country and stamping the "passports" of those who come to our shop.

Beechmont Landcare Planting Day
  Icon for Save Trees message

On Saturday 26th March TM Landcare volunteers reached out a helping hand to our neighbour organisation in Beechmont. In a morning's cheery labour, more than 40 people planted 600 trees at Back Creek. The planting was a joint initiative of Tamborine Mountain Landcare, Caring for Plateaus, Beechmont Landcare and Scenic Rim Regional Council. Additional support came from the Gold Coast Bushwalkers and convenors of the Syd Duncan Park project in Lower Beechmont.

In Beechmont, as on Tamborine Mountain, community revegetation projects along riparian corridors allow animals to move safely across the landscape instead of taking a more dangerous route across roads. In the existing reserves along the Back Creek bird watchers have spotted at least 160 bird species, as well as koalas, gliders and Richmond Birdwing Butterflies.

Last Sunday's planting reminds us how much our local environment and its inhabitants - including us - can benefit from such collaboration among community groups and regional organisations.
Local Poet's Book Launch

A well-respected long-term Mountain resident, Raymond Curtis, will launch his latest book of poems, The View Westward, at Tea and Niceties, Eagle Heights Rd, on Sunday 23 April at 3pm. He will read a selection of his lyrical poems and the Tamborine Mountain Orchestra will provide a grace note, by performing some of Raymond's musical compositions.

We are very grateful that Raymond is generously donating the profits from the sale of his book to Tamborine Mountain Landcare as well as to the orchestra.

The charming setting, the poetry and music will make this a memorable event. Book with Tea and Niceties on 5545 3645; $15 per head includes tea, coffee, canapés. Raymond's volume of poems will be for sale at launch, RRP $19.95 (cash sales only).
