Greetings friends,

We have TWO incredible events this month!

For our monthly meeting on Friday, March 17th, we have Tory Clark, LMFT, presenting "Navigating the Dark Journey: Before We Rise, We Must First Descend." In addition to being a stellar human, Tory is a high-level subject matter expert with a depth of experience and wisdom. We've been looking forward to this talk for months!

Tory Clark is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a broad-ranging background in health and human services. She holds a Master’s in Public Health and a Doctor of Human Sexuality, served as a firefighter for the City of Reno for eight years, taught at the University of Nevada Reno for nine years, and has a Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies and Research from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, California. Drawing from this diversity of education and experiences, she integrates the connection between body, mind, and spirit into working with her clients. She deeply believes in her own ongoing personal exploration, which is an integral piece that informs her therapy practice and keeps her humble and true to her life’s journey.

Saturday, March 18th, we also have the great privilege of hosting Dr. Keith Lowenstein for a workshop titled "Kriya Yoga for Self-Discovery" at The Studio Reno (1085 S Virginia St). We've been reading Dr. Lowenstein's excellent book by the same title for the SPS book club and have been looking forward to the workshop with much anticipation! There are still a few spots available, as well as one-on-one afternoon slots open for reservations.

A legislative recap for those new to our mailing list:

A Senate Bill Draft (BDR 4039) has been introduced in Nevada to “revise provisions governing controlled substances.” The conversation is currently focused on psilocybin (the active component in magic mushrooms). We commend our legislators for their efforts to revise outdated drug policy so that our citizens may pursue these novel treatments for healing without fear of prosecution.

Sierra Psychedelic is working with the Nevada Coalition of Psychedelic Medicines (NCPM) to lobby in support of this bill, and for the inclusion of decriminalizing language for psilocybin. This is a pivotal moment for criminal justice reform in our state and we need to raise funds to retain our lobbyist for the remainder of Nevada's 2023 legislative session. You can help by joining the coalition, donating to the cause, and sharing this with those who might feel called to support the movement. Thank you for raising awareness, and for helping to ensure that this policy will best serve our population!

We hope to have an update soon on the status of the Bill Draft language. Thank you all for your continued efforts to bring healing to our community!

In light and communitas,

WHAT IS INTEGRATION?

"Integration refers to the process by which the material accessed,

and insights gained in an entheogenic experience, are incorporated

over time in a way that benefits the individual and the community."

- ERIE (Entheogenic Research Integration and Education)

This will be a safe space to talk about non-ordinary states of consciousness. If you'd like to connect online with our group between meetings, we invite you to join the slack group.

As you'll notice on our posted schedule (below)we are adding a "Symbols & Meaning (Ullman Method) Circle" on every 2nd Wednesday of the month, and a "Peer Support for Addiction Circle" on every 4th Wednesday, starting in November.

Symbols & Meaning (Ullman Method) Circle

"As my journey…” Approach to Psychedelic Integration.

This integration circle is based on the Ullman method and has typically been used for nighttime dreams. This circle is for those who are curious about finding meaning from the messages, images, symbols, stories, etc. from their psychedelic experience. The messages of the unconscious are not always clear and we may have to work to understand them. Using the Ullman approach, the individual shares their experience to the extent they are comfortable, and others may share their ideas about the journey by projecting as if it were their own, always responding, “If this were my journey, . . .” The power of this process is that by hearing others' projections, the person sharing opens up to new ideas that resonate with them in a way they could not have done on their own. The person sharing their journey experience decides what it means to them. They may resonate with some reflections and not resonate with others. That is okay.

Peer Support for Addiction Circle

Are you interested in learning how psychedelic medicines can be helpful with addictive behaviors and patterns? Most of us struggle with some form of addictive behavior—whether it be with technology, substances, or compulsive mental patterns. If you’re struggling with addictive behaviors, or if you have helpful guidance to share with others based on personal experience, we invite you to a safe and confidential space where we can support each other on the journey! (NOTE: These are sober sessions offered for emotional support. Sierra Psychedelic Society facilitators are not providing psychotherapy, medical advice, or substance abuse counseling.)

If you know anyone who would like to join and/or be included in occasional updates and event info, please feel free to forward this email to themthere’s a signup page here for our email list. We promise to keep your information confidential and if for any reason you’d prefer to opt out—no worries! Just click the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of this email. For more information, please visit our website, slack channel, or email us at: [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you!
