Hello Friends!
We have had quite the month here at Race for Life, March came in like a lion for flyin' and we couldn't be happier. On March 8th, we made our first trip to CA to help the Dove Project rescue 23 dogs struggling in overcrowded LA shelters in the aftermath of the wildfires, to new foster homes in St. Paul, Minnesota. And the very next week, we returned to Chino, CA with North Shore Animal League to bring 43 dogs to Allentown, PA in their coast to coast journey. Once they arrived in Allentown, they boarded motorcoaches and made their way North Shore's amazing shelter Port Washington, NY...the first step at a much deserved second chance. We hear several pups have already been adopted!
Yesterday was a really special day for us...we flew our 7,000th passenger! We're so excited to have reached another huge milestone and can't wait to hit the next one. We have more details below, along with our recent CA flight, a new blog post AND some heartwarming news stories. Whew...that a lot, so I'll let you get to it!
Don't forget to check your flea and tick treatment supply! ~ it's that time of year.
HAPPY SPRING!

HELLO DOLLY!
Yesterday morning, Baton Rouge greeted us with a beautiful sunrise that was fitting for a celebration. Thanks to our partners at BISSELL Pet Foundation, we were able to fly 56 pets to Binghamton, NY, where a second chance awaited them. Among this fine furry crew, was Dolly, a beautiful sable border collie who just happened to be our 7,000th passenger!
We are so grateful to have reached yet another incredible milestone, and in just under 3 years! Our mission is to continue to provide air transportation to animals in life threatening situations, and reduce the number of animals lost to circumstance. We can't do it without amazing partners, supporters, donors, and friends like you...thank you!
Here are some more photos from our beautiful morning in Baton Rouge...enjoy!

The devastation for people and animals, following the wildfires in California continues. We’ve been working tirelessly, with a handful of amazing organizations, to find ways to help—and on March 8th, our plan took flight with Riverside Animal Shelter in CA and North Shore Animal League in NY.
After weeks of planning, we flew to Chino, CA to meet team members from each shelter, as well as 43 dogs we would fly from CA to Allentown, PA on their journey to North Shore Animal League's Port Washington, NY adoption center.
The journey didn’t end there though. In the past few weeks, they've received veterinary care, lots of love, and once they're settled in on the east coast...we know they'll find wonderful homes and the new best friends they deserve. 💙

With a long, cold winter giving way to warm, spring days we’re growing more and more anxious to get outside and enjoy the sunshine…especially if we have four legged friends who are also itching to shed the last bits of cabin fever. While fun is much deserved for us all, it’s important to be prepared for a headlong run into summer, which nearly always leads to a bump and bruise or two. But what about our furry friends? They, too, can sometimes find themselves on the receiving end of an unforeseen injury.
April is National Pet First Aid Awareness Month, so it’s the perfect time to familiarize yourself with some facts and basic first aid information to be prepared for such emergencies should they arise. It can also help you avoid the feelings of panic that usually comes along with these situations.

N.Y. Police Find 'Bitey' Lost Dog and Publicly Ask Owners to 'Come Get Him, Like, Now' in Viral Post
PEOPLE | MARCH 25
A police department in New York state found itself jokingly begging for a surly lost dog's owner to collect their pet, who officers nicknamed "Bitey McBiterton."
In a hilarious Facebook post shared on Saturday, March 22, the Ossining Police Department — located about 30 miles north of New York City — shared a photo of "Bitey," a small white dog, giving a snarl to the camera and information about how the owner can find them.
"Bitey McBiterton was found wandering on Sarah Street off North Malcolm Street," the department wrote. "Our Officers are unsure if Bitey is male or female and aren't keen on checking. If you recognize this super friendly pup, tell their owners to come get them, like now. Thanks."
In an update shared soon after, police humorously confirmed that Bitey's owner had come to collect them.

One Cat's Incredible Reunion With Its Owner in the Aftermath of the LA Wildfires
US NEWS | MARCH 11
It appears the tall tale that all cats have nine lives may be true for a California MaineThe closure of Save This Life, a pet microchip company, has prompted alerts for potentially affected pet owners.
The Austin, Texas–based company appears to be permanently closed on Google.
The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), which hosts a Pet Recovery Service registry for companies, including Save This Life, removed the provider from its Microchip Registry Lookup tool in mid-February after receiving reports of failed searches.
The implanted chips can still be read, but entries in the associated registry are no longer searchable. It was not immediately clear how many pets may be affected.
