UPCOMING LECTURE

DATE: Friday, March 7, 2025

TITLE: History of the US Submarine Force in WW II

DESCRIPTION: The U.S. submarine force is a preeminent component of America's current navy. It stands on the shoulders of a mere 16,000 men who converted a new and untested weapons system into a potent force which virtually destroyed Japan's maritime system. Although the major sea battles involving surface ships and airplanes are well documented, the submarine force, representing only 2% of navy personnel, sank 55% of Japan's merchant fleet and 33% of its warships. John Lindstedt presents the largely ignored history of the birth of the U.S. submarine force and its importance in the U.S. victory, at a cost of 22% of its submarines.

He served on the Fleet Ballistic Submarine, USS Kamehameha SSBN 642 Blue based in Rota, Spain in October, 1973, which patrolled the Straits of Gibraltar and Mediterranean Sea during the First Yum Kippur War. He also served two years of sea service in the Merchant Marine as a marine engineer. After his naval service, John returned home to his native state of Wisconsin to the family business of Advanced Plating Technologies, a surface finishing firm, providing surface finishes in gold, silver, nickel, tin, and lead in addition to engineering services to a large array of US companies and the US military, including submarines and other naval vessels and ammunition to all branches of the services. He has been married 55 years and has 3 children, two of whom are veterans.

DAYTRIPS ON PAUSE

The UW system is in the process of implementing Workday, an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that will standardize and streamline most human resources, finance, and research administration business processes at every UW System institution.

Due to this transition, ALL will be pausing daytrips after the current trip to see the Neil Diamond musical, "A Beautiful Noise" on March 30, 2025. This will allow UW-Parkside to be able to transition everything over to the new system to be able to handle contracts and payments on behalf of ALL in the future.

We apologize for any disappointment regarding this and appreciate your understanding as we work to navigate the situation.
