How I decided to pursue a creative career path
As my youngest daughter Bella prepares to embark on her journey to college (OSU) this fall, I find myself reflecting on the path that led me to my career choice. Last summer, I vividly recall the struggle she faced in deciding her future career path. Despite the pressure she felt, I reassured her that it's perfectly okay not to have everything figured out at the age of 18.
My own journey was guided by a love for art. It was my passion, my strength, and my comfort zone. Pursuing a career in graphic design seemed like a natural fit, thanks to the encouragement of my advisor. So, I enrolled at Youngstown State University with a focus on graphic design and a minor in computer graphics.
During my time at YSU, I explored various artistic disciplines. I delved into fine art, exploring art history, experimented with ceramics and oil painting, and discovered a profound appreciation for photography in my third year. There were moments when I was tempted to switch my major, particularly when I found myself captivated by subjects like psychology. However, I remained committed to my chosen path of becoming a graphic designer.
Graduating cum laude from YSU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a minor in computer graphics, I entered the workforce with a sense of fulfillment and excitement. Over the years, I've had the privilege of enjoying a successful career doing what I love. Looking back, I consider myself fortunate to have followed my passion and carved out a fulfilling professional journey.
My wish for my daughter, and her peers who are about to embark on their quest to figure it all out, I hope they see the world as immense and filled with endless possibilities. Bella - pursue your passions selectively and excitedly!
Best of luck to the 2024 graduating seniors
