AI @ FCPS AND MARSHALL HIGH SCHOOL -

THIS WEDNESDAY GUEST SPEAKER

A conversation for parents about AI in FCPS: learn about current classroom tools and the future of AI at Marshall & FCPS.

This is an excellent follow-up to our January meeting on AI and how teens are using it. Now, we're zooming in on what's happening inside FCPS classrooms—and what families should expect moving forward.

Join us on Wednesday, February 18, at 7:30 PM on Zoom as we welcome Rachel Baxter, GCM's Instructional Technology Coach, as our guest speaker. Rachel works closely with teachers to design engaging, technology-rich learning experiences and will offer insight into how AI is being approached across the county.

She'll be joined by Elizabeth Toledo, Librarian, and Samantha Phelps, Social Studies Teacher, for a clear, practical discussion about:

  • What AI tools do students and teachers currently have access to
  • Where FCPS is headed with AI
  • How AI is (and isn't) being used in classrooms
  • Answers to your questions about AI usage in FCPS

Please take a moment to submit any questions you have about AI usage in FCPS so our speakers can prepare. This session is designed to inform, clarify, and keep parents in the loop—because AI isn't coming… It's already here.

This Wednesday, Feb. 18th @ 7:30 PM on Zoom. Zoom link will be emailed out on Wednesday Morning.

BOUNDARY CHANGE - ACTION NEEDED

Action Needed: Families rezoned to Madison who wish to remain at Marshall.

If your student wishes to complete their academic path at Marshall and would need transportation, please share your interest or input to the following email: MarshallRezoning@gcmptsa.org ASAP, by this Tuesday, 2/17, if possible:

Marshall parent Andrea Keller is connecting families whose futures at Marshall would be affected by a lack of transportation. After speaking at last week's school board meeting, Andrea will be meeting with one of the School Board members this Wednesday, 2/18. She would be glad to include any input you can share on how a lack of transportation would affect your family, as well as ideas for meeting our community's transportation needs.

While a Transportation Survey was sent to families this week, and our students have the choice to remain at Marshall, FCPS is not currently planning to provide transportation. The survey is in response to a few school board members' requests to collect current data.

Our input and action are needed now, while these decisions are on the table, as the School Board will vote on the 26-27 budget on February 26. Our goal is to ensure that transportation needs for returning Marshall students are adequately understood and prioritized by all school board members as they prepare for this vote.

Information and support for engagement will be shared with all who respond, by email or possibly a Zoom meeting mid-week.

Let's get connected to ensure that all returning Marshall students and IB center students will have equitable access to transportation!

AMAZON WISH LIST TO HELP WITH MEAL PACKING

DONATIONS NEEDED!

NHS, Sports Leadership, and Statesmen Helping Hands are teaming up to pack 300 weekend meals for students in our community who receive free and reduced meals — and right now, we need donations more than volunteers.

🗓 Packing Event: February 22

⏰ 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

📍 Room C113

To make this happen, we must collect enough approved food items to fill 300 meal bags. The most helpful way to support this effort is to purchase directly from our Amazon Wish List and have items shipped to the provided address. Porch drop-offs are also welcome by Friday, February 19, at:

TASTE OF ITALY: MARSHALL PARENTS WINE TASTING

Sip, savor, and support our seniors — one glass at a time! Italian Wine Tasting Event

Join us for a Wine Tour of Italy on Thursday, March 5th, from 6–8 PM at The Wine Outlet on Church Street in Vienna. For just $20 per ticket, we'll sip our way through a curated selection of Italian wines while enjoying the shop's specialty cheeses and delicious snacks.

A portion of all purchases made that evening will support Marshall's graduation festivities — a wonderful way to celebrate and support our seniors.

It's a relaxed, welcoming evening to connect with fellow Marshall parents, discover new favorites, and enjoy a fun night out. Everyone is welcome — bring a friend and raise a glass with us!

Natalie Campbell – Special Education English Teacher

What is your position at Marshall, and what do you enjoy most about it? Learning Disabilities Teacher. More specifically, a Special Education English teacher. I love the diversity in the student population I have the privilege of working with. Additionally, I enjoy working and collaborating with my colleagues.

If you weren't in education, what would you be doing instead? If I were not working in education, I would likely be a student again in graduate school! Or I would be working in the counseling space.

What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday? My favorite way to spend a Saturday is with my roommates doing something active! We enjoy working out together and grabbing a coffee afterward.

What advice would you give to students about making the most of high school? The advice I would give to my students would be: Be kind to others and be kind to yourself. People will remember how you made them feel more than anything else.

What's one thing parents can doat home to support their students’ success? Talk to your student! Students these days have a lot of things on their minds and want to be heard.
