On July 17th, MAS-SSF’s Shifa for Youth Program and ICNA Relief hosted a culturally responsive Anti-Bullying Workshop. One of our many Peer Support Specialists, Hamed Bahrami, delivered the presentation in Dari with Pashto translators on hand.
Hamed engaged the audience in discussions about:
- What bullying is and what that dynamic looks like
- Statistics and legal information
- Cyberbullying
- How parents can respond and protect their children from bullying
-
Responsibility of mandated reporters
To close the workshop, Naveed Ahmed, Assistant Director of Western Region for ICNA Relief USA
emphasized the importance and role of parents to help ensure kids don’t fight or bully others. Twenty-two families–youths and parents–attended the workshop while a few younger children enjoyed playing, snacks and crafts. Participants provided feedback and described the workshop as informative, helpful, and much needed.
All attendees were treated to a halal meal, and each family received a queen-sized comforter set from ICNA Relief and a box of dates courtesy of MAS-SSF.
MAS-SSF would like to present this workshop to other organizations
and community groups. Please contact us at (916) 486-8626
or info@mas-ssf.org to schedule a workshop.
