September 2022

Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year!

Dear MASD Families,

I hope the school year is off to a great start for you and your family!

The administration and staff of the Moon Area School District spent countless hours upgrading our technology, preparing our curriculum, and getting ready to welcome our students back to school, only to be faced with a cyber ransomware attack four days before the start of school. I'd like to begin by thanking everyone for their patience and flexibility as we navigated this issue. At this point, I’m pleased to share that most of our systems have been restored. I'd like to thank everyone who helped us navigate the attack, minimize the damage, and ultimately restore/ rebuild our technology infrastructure.

I’d also like to thank everyone for their patience as we deal with staffing shortages, particularly with transportation and support staff. The bus driver shortage has been especially tough. We are working closely with Student Transportation of America to recruit drivers. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a driver, please visit https://stacareers.com to apply. From there, click on the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the map. Then scroll down to “Coraopolis” and click the “Apply Now” box.

Although we have faced challenges this year, our faculty and staff members remain committed to helping our students learn and grow. When I walk through the halls of our schools, I see classrooms full of engaged and excited learners. It’s fantastic.

Thank you to all of our students for their hard work. And thank you to our MASD parents for their continued support.

Let’s make this a great year!

Sincerely,

Barry Balaski

Superintendent

Moon Area School District
