APRIL GOLDEN HAMMER AWARD

Site Assessment Volunteers

For April, we are proud to present the Golden Hammer Award to the incredible volunteers who powered this year’s Site Assessment process, laying the groundwork for our summer home repair season.

In just two weeks, MATE staff and dedicated volunteers completed 85 home site assessments—a record-breaking achievement. What once took more than a month to accomplish at half the scale utilizing only one team or a single individual was made possible thanks to the coordinated efforts of dedicated teams, each consisting of a Construction Specialist and a Homeowner Liaison...

🌷 Spring Into Action by Joining MATE's Builder’s Team!

Dear MATE Family and Friends,

Spring is in the air at MATE and we would first like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the new Builder's Team members who are now providing regular recurring gifts in support of MATE's homeowner partners, ongoing operations, and building a vibrant future.

As we prepare for another busy home repair season, we unfortunately recognize that the need is more critical than ever, with requests for repairs already up 35% from last year, which had previously been a record high.

"When all else fails, MATE is the light at the end of the tunnel. I was pretty much hopeless."

Along with aging homes in desperate need of repairs and the exorbitant median home price in Maine topping $400,000, other daily necessities such as rent, heat, food, medicine, childcare and eldercare continue to rise as well. On top of this, public funding to local partner organizations battling housing insecurity has been reduced substantially, drastically reducing the impact they're able to have, making MATE one of the last lines of support.

That’s why we’re asking you to join the Builder’s Team—our community of monthly donors—to help keep Mainers safe, warm, and housed.

YOUR RECURRING GIFT PROVIDES:

  • Bulk purchasing power for materials = lower costs, faster service
  • More stable cash flow for better planning and longer repair seasons
  • Resources to hire skilled staff and engage more volunteers
  • The ability to respond quickly and support more families in-need

"I have Parkinson's Disease and have very poor balance and coordination. I spent the first two thirds of the summer trapped in my house. Thanks to the MATE Housing Repair program, I am now more self-sufficient. I am able to leave and return to my home in safety."

Builder’s Team members are the steady support behind every window installed, every ADA ramp built, every roof patched—and every life changed.
