BUILDING PROJECT
FUTURE OF THE
BUILDING PROJECT

Among the many challenges we are all facing these days, one concern has been about the potential implications of the Covid-19 pandemic for the church's construction plans. Based on careful assessment of the risks of proceeding versus the risks of delaying, the Building Project Task Force presented the Board with recommendations for judiciously proceeding with construction. At its meeting on April 14, the Board unanimously accepted the Task Force recommendations.

The Board has sent a letter to church members and associates, explaining the plan's adaptation to the present situation's financial uncertainties. A copy of the letter is available on the Building Project's website. Other updates (such as the status of our long-awaited building permit) which may have occurred since this article's mid-April deadline are also posted there. If you have a question, you can submit it there or CLICK HERE to send an email.

JUSTICE & SERVICE
ECO'S ENVIRONMENTAL CORNER
SHARE THE PLATE FOR NORTH CAROLINA ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE NETWORK

If you missed the April 19th Service, please watch Mark Dorosin, Orange County Board of Commissioner's presentation and endorsement of the work of EJN. What makes this environmental group particularly important is that it is a coalition of groups from all parts of North Carolina. Members represent groups most impacted by pollutants from landfills, coal ash, hog farm waste, fracking, or other sources.
SHARE THE PLATE
DONATE TO OUR VIRTUAL SHARE THE PLATES! We are so proud of this congregation! You have indeed embraced the continuing needs of our Share the Plate organizations even during such an unprecedented time. You clearly recognized that many groups' needs have increased in this crisis, especially those who serve children and families. Your generosity for TABLE and HABITAT FOR HUMANITY was overwhelming! THANK YOU! Here is how Virtual Giving for SHARE THE PLATE (STP) works: On STP Sundays, Rev. Thom announces the organization, its needs, and mission during the virtual service. You can scroll to the bottom of the virtual service page to the "basket"; choose Share the Plate as the recipient, and put in your info and submit. VERY EASY!  Find the basket HERE. (Checks made out to the church (STP/organization in memo line) can also be sent to Dana Lundquist at the church, if you prefer.). Please continue to support our worthy recipients and THANK YOU for your generosity!! QUESTIONS? Please contact Jane Provan or Jill Baker.

"Now more than ever" might be a good way to think of the the IFC's need for financial support as the current crisis has put a strain on IFC resources.CLICK HERE to visit the IFC website.
LEARNING & FELLOWSHIP
NONFICTION READERS

NONFICTION BOOK DISCUSSION FOR MAY  On Saturday, May 16 from 10:30 to 12:00, the Nonfiction Readers will discuss Overthrow: America's Century of Regime Change from Hawaii to Iraq, by Stephen Kinzer. This discussion will be held via Zoom teleconferencing. The book describes the hundred-plus years of American interference in other countries' affairs, beginning with the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom and ending with regime change in Iraq. The period in between was marked by periodic interference in the affairs of Latin America and the acquisition of colonies resulting from the Spanish-American War. Lila Berry will be leading our discussion. The Readers meet on the third Saturday of each month. New members and drop-ins are welcome.
