This month's WOW Factor features local talent in search of employment opportunities in the following positions:

The majority of our clients qualify for our On-the-Job Training (OJT) program, which offers new hires an opportunity to earn as they learn while employers are reimbursed to help compensate for the costs associated with skills upgrading and loss of production for the training of a newly hired employee.

Advantages to the employer include:
  • The employer sets the qualifications, interviews and selects the candidate(s);
  • With our assistance, the employer develops a training plan to address the gap between the new hire's existing skills and the job skill requirements; and
  • On average, an employer is reimbursed $3,500 per new hire.

BRIDGING THE TALENT GAP AND OPPORTUNITY

As of April 2021, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the number of job openings exceeds the number of unemployed at 7.4 million job openings and only 6.6 million available workers. The issue is not availability of jobs but of available workers with the right skills to fill open jobs.

On-the-job training and apprenticeship programs serve as an alternate on-ramp into a role that normally requires a specific degree or professional experience by providing motivated, high-potential individuals with the required training, professional skills development and experiential learning to bridge the gap.

There is a large volume of highly capable and eager talent that has not completed a degree or does not have extensive professional experience for a variety of reasons, including their financial situation, lack of access to higher education or professional jobs, and timing. For example, our local talent highlighted above in “The WOW Factor”, may qualify for OJT opportunities which can be used in conjunction with apprenticeship programs.


Our OJT program benefits the company by offsetting up to 75% of the wages of a new hire during the training plan period and the new hire by providing an opportunity to learn while they earn. It's as easy as the following three steps.
BUSINESS REIMBURSEMENT RATES
  • 250 or less employees = 75% of wages
  • 251 or more employees = 50% of wages

SBA RELIEF PROGRAM UPDATES

PAYCHECK PROTECTION PROGRAM

After serving more than 8 million small businesses, general funding for the Paycheck Protection Program  (PPP) has been fully committed. The SBA will continue funding outstanding approved PPP applications, but new qualifying applications will only be funded through a set-aside for Community Financial Institutions (CFIs), including Certified Development Companies (CDCs), Microlenders, Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), and Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs). The PPP program will end when these funds are fully committed, or on May 31, whichever comes first. 

Please note that not all institutions listed are currently participating in PPP. 

RESTAURANT REVITALIZATION FUND

The SBA received more than 186,000 Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF) applications as of May 4. 

All eligible businesses can apply now. The SBA will prioritize funding of RRF applications from small businesses owned and controlled by women, veterans, and socially and economically disadvantaged individuals for the first 21 days of the program. Applications will then be funded on a first-come, first serve basis. 
ECONOMIC INJURY DISASTER & LOAN INCREASES

Whether you have an existing COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) and want to apply for an increase, or are interested in applying for an initial COVID-19 EIDL, funding is available for loans up to $500,000. 

SHUTTERED VENUE OPERATORS GRANT

Since the SVOG portal opened April 24, more than 10,000 applications have been submitted to the SBA. Interested applicants can get help applying from an SBA Resource Partner, and can contact 1-800-659-2955 for assistance with the application portal.
