From the Stewardship Team

In late February a surprising and extraordinarily generous gift arrived at the FCC Oskaloosa office in the form of a letter and a check from the Estate of Louise E Bass. To most this is likely an unfamiliar name, hence the surprise!

Our team feels it important to share with the congregation the information we have at this time due to the magnitude of the gift. Stewardship has already met on a couple of occasions to discuss next steps and it is clear that we should take this opportunity to establish short and long term visions for our church. A coordinated effort amongst our team leaders, elders, and pastors is in the works with outcomes to be shared when appropriate.

The details:

- Louise is the daughter of Lloyd and Leah Bass

- Leah Bass was a member of our church in the 1980s

- Louise last resided in Colorado and had reached out to Pastor Molly a couple of years ago via Dave Langkamp about doing her funeral service (a graveside service is being planned for sometime this summer)

- The gift amount is $380,000

- Funds are not be used for operational expenses, salaries, utilities, or other monthly expenses

- This gift is made in honor of Lloyd, Leah and Louise Bass

- Funds have been invested with the Christian Church Foundation

To be remembered by a family member that attended here decades ago is a true testament to the impact this church and our congregation has had for generations. As we receive this incredible blessing, we are reminded of the sacred responsibility we all have to be faithful stewards - not only of financial gifts, but of the mission and legacy entrusted to us as Christ's church. May we prayerfully and joyfully seek God's guidance as we discern how best to honor this gift and the memory of the Bass family while we continue to be a welcoming place where people feel a connection to God through Jesus Christ and a commitment to each other, our community and the world.

"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace." - Peter 4:10 (ESV)

In His service,

Brock Martin, Bryan Butler, Diane Stewart, Karen Keep, Linda Cohrt, Veronica Grim, Robert and Molly Goodrich

Thank you to all the youth who participated in the worship service on March 30: musicians, speakers, greeters, offertory takers and video technician. You all did an amazing job and were a blessing to all who worshipped with us that day. I also appreciate your flexibility in the changing roles and practice schedules, and your willingness to step up and try something new. God bless each of you!

Sherry DeJong

The family of Steve Shaw wants to thank the First Christian Church congregation for the love and support during Steve’s challenges with Parkinson's. The cards sent, the visits made to him at the care center, and Lydia Circle sending us cards. Thanks to Scott Stewart for the visits and offering to stay with him while he was in the hospital, Carol Huffman for bringing us communion to the care center and for cookies! Pastor Robert and Molly for their support and encouragement during our journey. All the church family who helped with the luncheon whether you served or furnished food or helped with clean-up. Also thank you for the many prayers sent to us.
