Hello!
The construction on Thackery Trail is effecting the entrances to Whitman Park Shopping Center. See below for route changes. It is very similar to how we did things during the major construction on Summit Ave, but this won't be as long!
Next Thursday, we are hosting Kathleen Ernst for a virtual event featuring her new book, The Weaver's Revenge. I am looking forward to chatting with Kathleen as her events are always fun and informative. A signed bookplate is included when you purchase a copy of The Weaver's Revenge from Books & Company.
Lastly, if The Great Circle is not already on your nightstand or your to read pile, add it now! Both Lynn and I love it. Maggie Shipstead will be joining us for our next installment of Readings from Oconomowaukee on Tuesday, June 8 at 2:00pm. Signed bookplates are available when you purchase a copy of The Great Circle from Boswell Books and Books & Company.
The CDC's announcement last week was a welcomed change in our year of living with restrictions. However, it did come suddenly and with a large and unclear asterisk for *some situations. Books & Company falls into the *some situations. We continue to require everyone to wear masks in the store for the time being. We can't determine who is and who is not vaccinated, therefore everyone will need to wear a mask to protect those who are not vaccinated, including the kids. We are, however, increasing the number of people that can be in the store at one time. We are adapting and adjusting as we move back into a less restrictive space. Thank you for understanding and for your continued support of Books & Company and our community.
Cheers and Happy Reading!
Lisa with Katrina, Ken, Chloe, Genavieve, Kristen, Elisabeth, Beth, Joseph, Maureen, Jewell, Toni, Lynn, Judy, and Sarah

by Andy Weir
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission—and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. Bookseller Maureen says "In many ways, Project Hail Mary is even better than Weir's almost-perfect The Martian. We are treated to a save-the-world scenario instead of save-only-the-astronaut. A deadly microbe is killing the light from the Sun, and Earth is expected to begin suffering mass casualties. The theory of relativity throws a major wrench into the plan to save the planet, and there are only a few, very gene-specific humans who can help. So good..."

The Briscoe family is once again the talk of their small town when March returns to East Texas two years after he was caught having an affair with his brother's wife. His mother, June, hardly welcomes him back with open arms. Her husband's own past affairs have made her tired of being the long-suffering spouse. Is it, perhaps, time for a change? Within days of March's arrival, someone is dead, marriages are upended, and even the strongest of alliances are shattered. In the end, the ties that hold them together might be exactly what drag them all down.

by Hilary Mantel
With The Mirror & the Light, Hilary Mantel brings to a triumphant close the trilogy she began with her peerless, Booker Prize-winning novels, Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies. She traces the final years of Thomas Cromwell, the boy from nowhere who climbs to the heights of power, offering a defining portrait of predator and prey, of a ferocious contest between present and past, between royal will and a common man’s vision: of a modern nation making itself through conflict, passion and courage. Portrayed by Mantel with pathos and terrific energy, Cromwell is as complex as he is unforgettable: a politician and a fixer, a husband and a father, a man who both defied and defined his age.

In the days following September 11th, a 30-foot American flag hung torn and tattered at 90 West Street, across from Ground Zero. A few weeks later, the flag was taken down by a construction crew and tucked away in storage, where it stayed for nearly seven years. The flag was brought out of storage in 2008 when the New York Says Thank You Foundation headed to Greensburg, Kansas, a town nearly destroyed by a tornado. NYSTY brought the flag with them, sparking a grassroots restoration effort that traveled over 120,000 miles across all fifty states, bringing together thousands of people, and helping America heal and rebuild hand by hand, thread by thread, one stitch at a time.
