Education

May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

Members at Blythe Elementary have been learning about AAPI cultures each week during our DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) Thursdays.

For instance, members learned about Filipino icon Dante Basco (actor/voice actor/producer) and all joined together in the auditorium to play Piko (a Filipino take on hopscotch).

The Arts

Students were able to learn how to tie-dye and in the process get to know each other more. While doing the tie-dye activity we decided to play some music in the background and talk about how our days/weeks were going. Doing this activity at first was intimidating to some students but after learning, they expressed having fun and feeling creative. They also shared that they were excited to create new friendships through the process. All the students were so happy with the outcome of the activity. They all enjoyed their shirts and said they would love to do it again.

Health & Wellness

For Mental Health Awareness Month, the Canoga Park High School team decided to do a wellness activity which led the students express themselves by painting on rocks. The students were able to chat with one another during this activity and some event met each other for the first time.

STEM

Members at Hale Charter School created “stress balls” using oobleck and a balloon, which had the members wanting to make more with different consistencies.

Staff Training

At BGCWV we train our staff to ensure they are equipped to provide an excellent Club experience. This month our team had continued education opportunities.
