President's Message
Seasons Greetings!
As the year comes to an end, I want to offer you my warmest wishes. I hope that you are having a joyous and wildly creative holiday season. If you are in need some extra inspiration this month, Art Center is hosting a free demo by Joan Fee TOMORROW, Monday, December 11th, from 3-5pm. During this demonstration, Joan will show you how to make beautiful mosaic jewelry, just in time for the holidays!
Did you know that the MBAA is very unique in that it is one of a few nonprofit, all volunteer-run, art organizations that actually owns not just one, but two galleries!? This organization has come a long way in the last 72 years, it is inspiring to imagine all of the art and artists that have laid the foundation upon which the MBAA sits on today. This art association is an incredible institution, literally built by the support of its members, volunteers and community. In order to appreciate and recognize our current members in a greater way (while encouraging new members to join) we will be launching some new membership incentives in 2024. To begin with, the new Exhibit Schedule includes three member ONLY exhibits. Also, expect to see, the non-member take-in fees slightly increase. One the member only shows will be a juried show where members are encouraged to submit two of their best works. Do not miss this show. It is guaranteed to be amazing because our members are an incredibly talented group, I cannot wait to see their best work.
It has been a very busy month. I got back from my cross-country adventure and jumped right in. We have been diligently working on finalizing the Exhibit Schedule, crafting Call to Artists for each show & locking down the 3D featured artists for 2024. We are getting very close to being able to release the schedule online and we will have a printed version available for pickup at the gallery in the new year. I hope you will all be inspired by 2024’s exhibit themes.
Last month, I may have been a little overly ambitious, when I mentioned that we would be sending out a call-to-action email within a week or two and that we were intending on having the new website launched before our next exhibit. Good things take time and these good things are taking more time than I had previously predicted.
Anyone that would like to have the opportunity to have their artwork featured in the MBAA’s future online and/or print marketing campaigns should reach out to my daughter Leni at leni.uhhuh.xyz@gmail.com. She will be collecting everyone’s submissions on a google drive to share with the volunteer design team that creates all of the MBAA’s promotional graphics. She will respond to any questions and let you know what they need for your work to be considered. She has shared her Best Practices for Photographing Artwork with us, scroll down to find it below. Also, if you are unfamiliar with file type/size/raster graphics etc. she can help. She makes a lot of our promotional printed materials and she would love to be able to feature you and your work in her graphics.
Our web team is still hard at work on the website. Our goal is to create a website that will be able to stand the test of time, is well-built, will adapt to our changing needs and provide a positive experience for all of its users. I confess that my enthusiasm may have gotten the best of me, but the website will be live as soon as possible. That being said unfortunately it will not be online prior to the next exhibit. However, you can expect to see a new-improved take-in form at the For the Birds take-in.
Looking for a perfect holiday gift? Our Winter Faire exhibit is filled with an abundance of unique and inspiring gift ideas. Why not share the gift of art this season?
In closing, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your ongoing support. I’m looking forward to another fantastic year of art and camaraderie in 2024!
Warmest regards,
Kathleen
