From the Director | Constants & Change

As the year comes to a close, the Baltimore MBDA AMC family reflects on a season of remarkable achievements and opportunities for growth. One thing history teaches us about constants is that change is inevitable. This year, our clients have embraced change with resilience, transforming challenges into triumphs and laying the groundwork for even greater success in the future.

In this newsletter we proudly celebrate the accomplishments of two of our exceptional clients. Dr. Jayfus Doswell, President and CEO of Juxtopia, LLC and a trailblazer in innovation and technology, has exemplified how ingenuity drives progress. Read about two recent honors that took him to to Tokyo, Japan. We also extend heartfelt congratulations to Arion Long of Femly who was recognized among the Top 100 MBE's at the CRMSDC's 39th Annual Leaders and Legends Awards. Arion Long is a shining example of entrepreneurial excellence and continues to redefine wellness solutions for women. We'll feature more on this award-winning CEO and on Femly's ground breaking products in the next issue of Connections.

We also want to acknowledge Sonjie DeCaires, of Sonje Productions for their Top 100 award. This year Sonje Productions has been a great addtition to the MBDA AMC team.

Looking ahead, the impending change in White House administration may bring potential shifts in priorities for programs supporting MBEs and DEI initiatives. While uncertainty surrounds specific policies, we remain committed to advocating for minority business development, socially and economically disadvantaged individuals, and fostering inclusive opportunities. Change, though inevitable, can also serve as a spark for innovation and renewed purpose.

As we reflect on this year, we want to sincerely thank our clients and stakeholders for partnering with us on this journey. Your trust and collaboration drive our mission and inspire our work every day. Wishing you a joyful holiday season and a prosperous new year.

Here’s to an extraordinary year ahead!

MBDA AMC CLIENT HIGHLIGHTS

Dr. Jayfus Doswell Presents on

AI and Education in Japan

In September, 2024, I traveled to Japan to achieve two objectives.

1) To present at the scientific 7th International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Education (WAIE 2025) in Tokyo, Japan; and 2) to meet with potential target market Japanese customers to sell the Juxtopia® Intelligent Nurse Instructor (JiNi)

product to target market schools of nursing and to address their nurse shortage (i.e., similar to the nurse shortage we have in Maryland and U.S., overall).

For objective #1, I presented at the WAIE 2025 achieving best presentation award for the work that Dr. Tilghman (i.e., Coppin State University School of Nursing) and I are conducting to develop a novel artificial intelligent nurse educator to autonomously e-train human student nurses perform clinical skills outside a clinical skills lab.

For objective #2, Juxtopia applied for and won support from Maryland Department of Commerce for an interpreter to translate my English presentation in Japanese while I presented to two Japanese Universities; one of which was the prestigious Tokyo University. I presented the JiNi product to each University and how it has the potential of e-training student nurses, in the Japanese language, to increase student nurse clinical skill proficiency.

Following the conference, Dr. Doswell:

Presented JiNi at the following Maryland event, “How Harnessing AI and Data-Driven Insights for Early Detection Can Transform Your Health." Read more.

Secured the following NIH grant awards:

  • Culturally Competent, Ethical, and Empathetic AI Police E-Trainer for Improving Non-Lethal De-Escalation Skills in a Multi-User Virtual Reality Environment to Mitigate Murders Against Black Males. Read more.
  • JiHi, An Artificial Intelligent HAZWOPER e-trainer for tutoring and evaluating emergency first response clinical skill proficiency. Read more.
