MBI Recognizes the Best of 2017 at Winter Conference
As has become custom at our Annual Winter Conference, Master Builders of Iowa took every opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication of member companies and their employees through a plethora of awards at the 2018 event!

The 2018 awards kicked-off at the Build Iowa Breakfast, where Kent Pilcher of Estes Construction was recognized with the Build Iowa Award. This award acknowledged his commitment to the commercial construction industry as well as his community, all while displaying the tenets of MBI: skill, integrity, and responsibility.

Next, MBI had the pleasure of welcoming four new members to the Master Builder Achievement Award club for attaining 150 hours of training credits through the association. Adam Day, The Hansen Company; Kevin Larsen, Woodruff Construction, LLC; Jeff Scandrett, Hy-Vee Construction, LC; and Joshua Thrap, Hy-Vee Construction, LC were presented with the coveted award. To wrap up the luncheon, MBI recognized the three Masters Award winners in the categories of: $1-5 Million, $5-10 Million, and over $10 Million. Graham Construction received the $1-5 Million award for the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Covenant Medical Center Renovation in Waterloo. In the $5-10 Million category, Peters Construction Corp. received the award for the SingleSpeed Brewing Company in Waterloo. Finally, in the over $10 Million category, DCI Group won the award for their project teams' work on Principal Financial Group Corporate 1 Renovation in Des Moines.

At the Safety Awards Breakfast, the new WORKSAFE Project of the Year was awarded to Neumann Brothers, Inc. for their work on the EMC Building in Des Moines. The winners of the 2018 Outstanding Safety Achievement Awards were Graham Construction, Des Moines, and The Waldinger Corporation, Des Moines. The Outstanding Safety Achievement Award recognizes one general contractor and one specialty contractor for significant achievements in workplace safety. To wrap up the safety awards, Russ DeFord of Dean Snyder Construction Co. was recognized for his efforts toward workplace health and safety. He was presented with the Safety Professional of the Year Award.

A new award this year was the Leadership in Workforce Recruitment Award which recognizes companies who have displayed exceptional efforts, engagement and leadership in communicating to future industry workers career opportunities in the commercial construction industry. This year’s recipient of the award was Henkel Construction Co., Mason City.

Master Builders of Iowa applauds all of the companies and individuals who took place in the award selection process and congratulates all of the winners.
The Need That Isn't Going Away
It is safe to say that, with almost 400 members, Master Builders of Iowa has one of the best aerial perspectives you will find of Iowa’s commercial construction industry.
Most of you should know by now that MBI launched a construction job board in September 2015 as a direct response to the workforce shortage issue. The job board is a place where only MBI members can post career opportunities within their respective companies, and MBI handles the marketing to ensure our members’ opportunities get maximum exposure in the marketplace.

MBI markets our job board in community colleges, universities, Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram and more. If your company is hiring for any positions it is certainly worth your time to take advantage of this members-only benefit. The best part is, it is simple! Just visit MBI.ourcareerpages.com , click on Employer Registration, fill out the form and click submit. Within a couple hours you will receive login credentials to begin posting as many positions as you would like!
Train on Your Schedule!
As commercial construction projects around the state become more and more active as the mercury rises, finding time to train your workforce may become more and more difficult. However, the need to train your most important asset does not diminish, in fact, the need for training your field staff actually increases as they become more and more active and the projects grow larger and larger!

So, as a company, how do you find the magic formula where a need for training and not enough time to do it equals a safe and productive workforce on all of your projects?

This is where MBI and our Training-on-Demand approach becomes a critical part of your company. As soon as you establish the training that is needed and the people who need it, contact MBI and we will work to schedule the training when and where you need it.  Whether you are looking for an OSHA 10 Hour course for all of your new folks, or a Silica Awareness course for an entire project team on-site, we can make it happen.
