th
from 3:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. This event will serve as a way to commemorate the building’s 50
th
year as MBI’s office building, but also, bring construction colleagues together to network and share in some construction camaraderie. There will be complementary food and drinks, as well as games, drawings, and giveaways.
All MBI member firms are invited to attend. Simply RSVP to Nichole Fry at

In preparation for the event, a little bit of history is in order – on August 1, 1968, the Certificate of Occupancy was issued to MBI for its current location and it has served as its base of operations ever since. The building’s functions have changed from when most of the lower level was busy with plan room members looking at plans and specs as they prepare bids, to now where it resembles more of a traditional office environment with offices and cubicles.
Not surprisingly, the neighborhood has also changed substantially over the years putting MBI’s headquarters right in the middle of a very vibrant and growing portion of Iowa’s Capitol city. During construction in 1967 and 1968, the area mainly consisted of apartment buildings and parking lots. Now, Iowa’s largest entertainment and convention venue – Iowa Events Center and Wells Fargo Arena - is just across the street. Our newest neighbor is the $101 million Hilton Des Moines Downtown, which just opened for business this past March. Though the neighborhood around the building has changed dramatically, MBI has a remained a fixture in its commitment to members and to Iowa’s commercial construction industry.
Hope you can join us on July 10
