An Evening with Congressman Ritchie Torres

The Miami Beach JCC invites you to come to a very special evening with Congressman Ritchie Torres on Thursday, October 23 at 7:30 PM.

He will be in conversation with Brooke Goldstein, founder of the Lawfare Project.

They will speak about Congressman’s Torres’s support of Israel, the Jewish People, the rise of anti-semitism and his stance in the face of a lot of resistance from many members of his own party.

Representative Ritchie Torres, a lifelong Bronx resident, serves New York congressional District 15. He has dedicated his career to fighting for his community. Raised by his single mother in public housing, he experienced firsthand the challenges of poverty and government neglect. Elected in 2013 as New York City’s youngest official and the first openly LGBTQ+ person in the Bronx to hold office, Ritchie passed over 40 pieces of legislation, including key reforms on affordable housing and public health. While serving in Congress, he has shown immense support for Israel and the fight against antisemitism.

Brooke Goldstein is the Executive Director and Founder of The Lawfare Project, which maintains an international network of more than 900 attorneys who are dedicated to defending and upholding the civil and human rights of the Jewish community.

COMMUNITY HAPPENINGS

The Greater Miami Jewish Federation, in partnership with local Jewish day schools, is exploring the feasibility of launching a new Jewish community (pluralistic) middle and high school, and we want to hear from you.

According to Jewish Miami: A 2024 Community Study, the number of Jewish children in Miami has increased 13 percent since 2014, and day school enrollment is nearly four times the national average. To further gauge interest and understand the key factors parents consider, Federation has engaged Independent School Management (ISM), the largest consulting firm serving private independent schools in North America, to conduct a community-wide survey to determine how likely families are to support a new Jewish middle and high school.

We strongly encourage any interested family to complete this important survey.

Before the deadline of Tuesday,

September 9th.

Thank you for your help in this vital community matter.
