What has your experience been like working with MBM on the AVH Healing Garden?
My experience working with MBM on the AVH Healing Garden project was exceptionally positive. I deeply appreciated the collaborative spirit and dedication demonstrated by the MBM team. Despite the inherent limitations we faced, particularly regarding funding, the partnership fostered a shared vision that ultimately allowed us to successfully bring the Healing Garden to fruition.
What were the biggest challenges on the AVH Healing Garden project?
One of the most significant challenges we encountered during the Healing Garden project was ensuring its visual impact would resonate both within the hospital and with the broader community. Our goal was to create not just a green space, but a truly impactful healing environment that would be recognized and valued. Overcoming budgetary constraints while still achieving this aesthetic and therapeutic vision required careful planning and innovative solutions.
How has the hospital staff, patients and community benefited from the Healing Garden?
The Healing Garden has brought numerous benefits to our hospital staff, patients, and the wider community. For the community, it serves as a powerful visual indication that Allegheny Valley Hospital is not only thriving but also actively investing in initiatives that enhance the patient experience and staff satisfaction. For our patients, it offers a tranquil oasis for respite and healing. And for our dedicated staff, it provides a serene space for breaks, contributing to their well-being and job satisfaction. It really symbolizes AVH's ongoing commitment to a holistic healing environment.
What are the next areas of focus at AVH?
Our primary area of focus at Allegheny Valley Hospital is the completion of our Inpatient Rehabilitation expansion. This is a critical project that will significantly enhance our capacity to provide specialized rehabilitative care. Beyond that, we are actively considering the development of an Outpatient Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center, strategically located across from the Healing Garden.
Tell us three things most people don’t know about you…
I grew up in Aliquippa, was involved in musical theater (which played a significant role in my college and medical school admissions), and I've recently discovered a new passion for gardening.
