Government of Canada Announces New Support Plan
Government of Canada announces plan to help support Canadians through the next phase of the recovery
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland, and the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, Carla Qualtrough, announced changes to the Employment Insurance (EI) program and new income support benefits that will better support all Canadians.
Government extends Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy support for furloughed employees for four weeks
To help support workers and provide certainty for employers, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, announced that the government proposes to extend the current treatment of furloughed employees under the CEWS program by
4 weeks – from
August 30 to September 26.
Ontario Expands Indoor Capacity
Ontario Expands Indoor Capacity for Meeting and Event Facilities
The Ontario government is safely reopening more of the economy by easing restrictions for facilities that rent out professional meeting and event spaces. Beginning August 21, 2020, facilities can have up to 50 guests for each indoor meeting room or event space within the facility. The facility would have to adhere to a plan approved by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health.
Ontario and Municipalities Work Towards a Strong Economic Recovery
The Ontario government joined hundreds of municipal officials for a successful virtual 2020 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference this past week. It demonstrated the critical partnership between the province and municipalities and the willingness to work towards a safe and strong economic recovery.
