RJ Corman Railroad Group

Rick Corman started his business after graduating from Jessamine County High School in 1973. He borrowed money from his uncle for a backhoe and dump truck and went to work rebuilding/repairing railroad crossings. At the end of four years, he had a dozen backhoes, a few dump trucks, and no debt.

Today, the R. J. Corman Railroad Group, LLC serves all major North American railroads, many regional and short line railroads, and dozens of industries having rail. Services include owning and operating 19 short lines, providing emergency rail services associated with derailments and natural disasters, switching, track construction, track material distribution, signal design/construction, and operating a dinner train.

R.J. Corman took over the Carolina Southern Railroad in 2015, operating lines that previously ran from Mullins, SC, to Whiteville, NC, and from Chadbourn, NC, to Myrtle Beach, SC, providing freight rail service along a line running through Conway to Myrtle Beach.

The rail line's rehabilitation is intended to attract new businesses and provide a vital economic tool for the region.

Thank you, RJ Corman, for your continued support of the MBREDC.

Have you completed the MBREDC

Existing Industry Survey?

The MBREDC asks all existing industries in Horry County to participate in the 2025-2026 Industry Survey. Your input helps us better understand your needs, track industry trends, and improve the support we provide to keep our local economy strong. By completing the survey, you’ll also stay connected to important updates on topics such as state and federal regulations and emergency preparedness. We appreciate your time and partnership as we work together to ensure the continued growth and success of Horry County’s industrial community.

Spotlight on: Heritage Construction

Since 2002 we have found that our simplified process of hands on preparation has played a major role in our success.

Heritage Construction and Development is a Christian-based company, founded by Neil Johnson, President and General Contractor. Johnson has been in the industry for nearly 27 years, bringing his expertise and experience to create a team of passionate and talented people that treat every project at Heritage Construction as if it were their own.

Heritage ensures the quality of each build by walking their clients through the home-building process, step-by-step. Neil and his wife, Caroline Dargan Johnson, are both Myrtle Beach natives, which has made it possible for them to build quality relationships with industry professionals that help make the client's dream come true. “Service is something that the team at Heritage Construction goes out of their way to deliver,” says Neil.

Heritage Construction and Development specializes in new construction custom homes, commercial properties, multi-family homes, developments, investment projects, and more! The Heritage team consists of in-house architectural & interior designers who manage ARB submittals for the client. Another benefit to working with Heritage Construction and Development is that all permitting is included in the services they provide.

In addition, the company has connections to a number of vendors and suppliers of the most coveted materials in the construction industry. We love building homes and lasting relationships with our clients. Making a homeowner’s dream come true is what they’re dedicated to. “We love bringing the client’s vision to reality and watching them see their dream unfold before their eyes.”

Thank you, Heritage Construction, for your support of the MBREDC!
